Sam Adams Boston Lager

Post by Dogger Dan »

All,

Got my mitts on a couple of these yesterday. Chilled them down and snapped the cap.

As I was having my first swig I looked at the seal, winner Austaralia Beer Award 2004

Then I started laughing.

My missus asked if there was a joke under the cap.

I said "Yes" and showed her the cap. Said she didn't get it so I handed her the bottle.

She then got it.

There couldn't have been a lot of competion that year.

Stale hoppy taste in complete imbalance and enough to choke a horse.

I have brewed many better beers.

Once again, I am disappointed with Mr. Adams

Sam Adams is reputed to be on of the better US beers, or is that just hype?

Cheers,

Dogger,

See http://www.homebrewandbeer.com/reviewsf ... adams.html

At the time of this tasting, I seemed to recall that it was not as good as I'd remembered.

Whether it was the beer or my tastes that had changed, I don't know.

But I suspect the former.

Oliver's tasting notes have pretty much nailed it.

That said, Sam Adams is a good step up above US Megaswill, but doesn't come close to what you can get from a good micro.

In terms of the US market, Sam Adams probably has similar market position to Cooper's here in Oz (ie Tier2 in telco-speak).
