where to get coopers brewmaster selection in melb?

Post by Simo »

g'day.
My local homebrew shop doesn't stock coopers kits and the premium and brewmaster range isn't stocked by any of the supermarkets.
Does anyone know of any stores in melb where I can find these tins? I'm located in bayside but work in hawthorn so any places around these areas are prefered.

Cheers.

CC Winecraft on Clarke Side Road here in London Ontario. If they have them here surely the must be pretty common in the homeland.

Brewcraft Stores dont stock Coopers products, so its a matter of being able to find a quality independent store. Not so many of them here in Adelaide though

I also work in Hawthorn and unfortunately the closest HBS is the new Liquorcraft in Richmond which doesn't stock Coopers. But Grain and Grape do and while they are off in the Western suburbs, deliver is usually less than $6 which for a reasonable size order is well worth the cost.

Grain and grape stock them, they are in Maribrynong, near Highpoint Shopping Centre.

Or at http://www.grainandgrape.com.au

Brewcraft/liquorcraft don't stop Coopers.

Greensborough Homebrew does.

Does anyone know why they don't?
I know they have their own range of kits, but surely they lose a few sales and probably repeat business (as they have here in Simo's case) by not stocking them.

Maybe because they don't believe they can compete with big retail chains like BigW and Kmart... who usually stock Coopers and little else. Just speculation, though.

Or maybe the margin on Coopers kits is too thin.

I've spoken to the owner of Brewcraft/Australian Home Brewing (formerly in Hughesdale, now in Oakleigh?) about Cooper's in general but not this issue specifically.

There is a bit of history between him and Cooper's, and I get the impression that he thinks Cooper's shafted him in the deep, dark past (and I'm talking at least 15 years ago here).

It seems he (and possibly Cooper's, although I can't imagine they'd say no to supplying him with their products) can't put his feelings to one side and do what's best for his customers.

I prefer not to shop there, but it's a fairly long hike to Grain and Grape in Maidstone.

Cheers,

It is... but I've finally reconciled myself to accepting the $6 delivery fee. When you consider the cost of petrol plus the time it takes to drive... it's worth every penny.

Plus, I can shop on-line during my lunch break :)

I think that Australian wine-makers at Peel St North Melbourne (near Queen Vic markets) also stock these Coopers ranges - probably not much better off for you than Maidstone but thought I'd let you know.

I can relate to a Coopers stand-off - my local pub refuses to stock them on tap. When new management took over they tried to get Coopers but the salesman wanted to charge an arm and a leg for security as the old owners had nicked off without paying any bills and he was worried the new owners would do the same. 6 months down the track the place is going gang-busters and the salesman comes back and offers to install Coopers as per normal. Owner tells salesman to go and get rogered. So looks like the local won't be getting Coopers in the foreseeable future.

They do have it in bottles behind the bar at least, they taste much better than from the tap IMHO.

Also, Winequip products in Sydney rd, Coburg stock coopers kits. Only use them if you know what you want though, not advice. I'm starting to get the feeling that my knowledge is not far off a lot of their staff, and i've only done a few brews (and a bit of cruising these forums).
