What is Idophor??

What is it's advantages over household unscented beach?

And is it a home brew store only item?

i've sanitised with it for the last 2 brews, no rinse, but saying that i havn't had a taste test yet, so make up your own mind.

HBS i got mine,

a bit difficult to mail order, apparently it's classed as Dangerous Goods.

I've not seen it in any supermarkets here in Sydney. Woolies, IGA, Coles only sell that horrid Sodium Metasulphate.
HBS has some.
I've been using Milton which is a bleach based sanitiser lately but will try Iodophor when I run out. The Milton has been very good with no taste left after rinsing.

I mail order mine from http://www.esbeer.com.au - had 3-4 bottles delivered now & not had any issues (i'm not disputing that its a dangerous good.. just that i havent had any issues. i guess it'd depend on your HBS)

To be honest, I'm not sure... but it is not sodium met... so, y'know, at least it's an option for those that don't like sodium met.

Neo pink worked for me just fine as well.
Its not sodium met so Happy days

So you guys don't recommend using sodium met?

Is it because the sulpher smell passes on the the brew?

I just used it to sterilise my first batch, what is best to use?

I've used sodium met for a while now without any problems, I seemed to have better beers after switching to it from neo pink.

I just had one batch that I must not have rinced well enough and tasted of the stuff.
I found the flavour of it too much and have now switch to other sanitisers.

My HBS
Sells the neo pink named sterophos, it definetly is NOT a chlorine based bleach. If you put your hand in a diluted solution you can feel the stuff work straight away I'm guessing that it's some sort of oxidation you feel on your hand. One of the base elements is obviously phosphorous.

I use this stuff it is quick, easy no need to scrub, simply swill out the dregs from the keg or fermenter, 1 -2 table spoons diluted in cold water fill the buggers and leave over night, rinse the next day and away you go.
Clears up all of the dried krausen without any effort. Anything for an easy life.

Must be different from the Brewiser neo-pink, it has 100% chlorinated trisodium phosphate. (Stinks like chlorine)

This product must vary from HBS to HBS as the neopink I buy has bleach in it.
It is packaged at the shop so could be their own mix?

I mainly use hot water. Sometimes if I can get my hands on it, I'll use Hydrogen Peroxide. It is fairly dangerous if your not careful, once sanitised I drain and leave for about 30mins and then use. No problems so far

If anybody is interested in a cheaper sterilizer, I've been using napi-san for a couple of years and never had an infection. My last two brews, I've actually used a generic version of napi-san from Bi-Lo supermarket (active ingrediant sodium percarbonate) and it has done the job fine. Although I'm sure it is not as thorough as bleach or what your HBS stocks, it is cheap and does the job. Anything that sterilizes sh*ty nappies must be reasnably good.

A guy who sold me a brew set up passed on some Milton (baby's milk bottle santizer) he had been using.
It had no smell and worked a treat. I've just run out.
I thought Napi-san had a strong smell so I was avoiding it.
Did you have to rince a lot?
I can't always get to the HBS when I want to so the supermarket for this type of stuff is quite often the only option at a pinch.
If I get to the supermarket (Milton) or the HBS first (Iodophor or Noe Pink) I'll use one of these. Happy with them all so far...
