Immersion chiller working bee

Post by undercover1 »

I want to make an immersion chiller early next year. Parts list, from one end to the other:
1 x female tap connector (cold water input)
1m garden hose
1 x male connector (hose to pipe)
10- 12m 14mm copper pipe
1 x female connector (pipe to hose)
2m garden hose (warm water output)
May also knock up a prechiller- large plastic box or bucket with metre or two of coiled pipe in it, that can be filled with crushed ice to cool the water on it's way in. All this stuff is easy to get hold of, from Bunnings or a plumbing supply store like Tradelink.

I have a hacksaw, pliers, work bench, work space etc but for this I think I will need to hire a pipe bending tool & a flaring tool- won't cost much.
Does anyone else based in Melbourne want to get in on this and put a few together? We can probably get the copper cheaper if we pay cash for a large amount of it, and also I think this is going to be one of those jobs that needs three hands sometimes. I am happy to host, provide beers etc. We can make a day of it, maybe put a brew down at the same time.
Email me if interested.
Salut!

i'll bring the potato salad.
only joking...
wish i lived closer to mlb.

re: parts list.
grab half a dozen or so half inch hose clamps from your local servo or super cheap auto etc, while you're there grab a cheap vice if you havn't already got one.

invaluable for when 3 hands just arn't enough.

good luck

No reason why you couldn't sort one out in your area Yardie.

Perhaps we could declare a National Immersion Chiller Day.

UC1,

I might be up for a chiller.

Let me think about it. I'll make a decision after I make up my mind about T-shirts

Seriously though, I might be interested in making a chiller.

Keep me posted.

I do, Dogger, but not a great one. It was made in my young, naive, inexperienced brewing days. I know better now what a good wort chiller maketh.

No...took a dozen longnecks of HB to work, cracked the first one at 10.30, you know how it goes from there.

Undercover,

I may be interested in attending, can say I'd make one though, just visit, meet some of the guys, I'll bring some beer etc.

To the point though, check out the jagmatic, it bends copper pipe:

All I need is a cold beer, a kind word, and unquestioned world domination.
