How much do Brewers get paid

Hi There,

Does anyone have any idea how much professional brewers (the lucky bastards) get paid.

Either head or assistant brewers.

Even better would be a brewer at a microbrewery.

Just a rough guide would help.

Thanks again

Shaun

I have no idea... I imagine in a big brewery, unless they have a management role, not much...

As for Micros, well I imagine many of the brewers own or have a large stake in the micro itself, so their earnings (as distinct from wages) could be anything....

And some dont care, you do come across a micro/brewpub from time to time where it seems the guy is just doing it for fun, ie you look at it and think: he could do this and that to increase profit... but he dont care... :)

Shaun,

If you're thinking of a career of a brewer (and who doesn't dream of that every day!), the University of Ballarat does a degree in brewing and malting.

They also do short courses occasionally about beer tasting and the like.

Cheers,

Oliver

I believe that Edith Cowan Uni in WA also offers a course or units on brewing so depending oin where you are might be worth a look.

I'm thinking of doing some of the units as a side step to current work related study, just trying to work out how to explain to the boss that brewing is work related given that I'm a teacher

Grab,

Try some BS along the lines of 'Natural Science', 'Micro Biology', 'Home Ecconomics/Cooking' if you need more I'll try again when I am less sober.

Cheers,
Greg

Don't get side tracked,

I tried to get involved with a brewery and ended up working for the King of Katchup

Ok,

Just so you know, after leaving the Navy

I earned a degree in something called geophysics, as well I backed it up with some physical Hydrogeology specializing in shallow contaminent work. At the time there were about 4 of us North America. I was offered a job in Madison in the USA but I needed to pack up the family. My Missus got offered a head nurse position at her hospital , I folded and we stayed. I switched carrers, I applied for a job with John Labatt brewery and they turned me down, I didn't know shit about brewing apparently. I applied for a job at Richardson Foods, and got it, I was an online QA. Since then, I took off there, performed some real majic, saved dollars, solved some line constarints. Latter we got bought out by the Katchup King, the same people that bring you beans in tomato sauce, baby food and a few other items, firm expanded etc etc.

They have since sent me back to school; got another degree, now in Food Science and John Labatt wants now wants me to work for them, but they want all my home brew recipies. No, I think not

My point was/is, I got side tracked, I could have stuck in brewing, I could have been a real live brewer with a big brewery. Instead, I am bringing you Katchup.

I hear the brewers at CUB are held in fairly high regard. It's mainly brewers that go on to get the top jobs.
