When You Enjoy A Beer....

Post by Paleman »

After other members thoughts on this one. Who finds it hard to stop at one or two of your favourite beers, wether they be commercial or homebrewed.

Myself, i dont drink any other alcoholic beverage other than beer. I just love the taste of beer, mainly my homebrews. And when ive made a good one, i sometimes go over the top and have a few too many. For the simple fact that i just want that taste to linger.

I know lots of people that get drunk, just for the sake of getting drunk, or loosening their inhibitions. But for me, when ive had a few too many, its just a by product of enjoying the taste. I dont widely varey my beers either. Its either homebrew or Coopers. Thats the taste ive aquired. Sometimes it may be something a little exotic like a Little Creatures, or James Squire.

Anyway, my point being. Are we using as an excuse, the love of beer and taste for sometimes getting intoxicated. Or is it ok to have a few too many, sometimes......as long as you dont get onto the hard stuff. :?

yep, that sounds like me as well
I will get home from work, crack a HB and water the veges, then have another one while I am cooking tea (I beat the missus home so I get to cook  ), then have a couple while having dinner and sometimes it can keep going from there :D
but I love the taste as well :D

Paleman,

Being of Irish extraction, I've had to live with a certain amount of guilt since I can remember. But the guilt stops at the drinking. I love a beer. And sometimes, I love to get on the lunatic soup and play up. Oh Yeah! :D

So, if your wife/GF is happy, your work isn't affected and you just love to appreciate beer, relax and enjoy.

I head down to my Man-Shed 8) (home of Landsborough Yacht Club Brewery) early on some saturday and sunday arvos to get stuck into that lovely product, just so I can have a lot before dinner. Then I might have a day off the wobbly pops or two as a personal pennance. Balance works for me.

...or is it that bloody guilt? :?:

I drink for the love of the Beer, I know this because I don't always keep drinking until I'm drunk, just most of the time.

I have friends who will drink anything as long as it ends in intoxication, and others who once they start can't stop until physically not able to pick up a glass anymore.

I've taken to only putting a few bottles in the fridge at a time...cold conditioning a large amount of bottles...or indeed just having them in there 'in case' someone comes over, has proven to be too much of a temptation...my missus is beginning to think I have a problem!!!!

Aslong as you're not drinking yourself to sleep every night I don't think it matters. I'm sure everyone here is guilty of enjoying a few too many beers on numerous occasions.

A wise man once said...."there are 2 reasons for drinking. One is when you are thirsty and the other is to prevent thirst AND prevention is always better than the cure."

Also to coin a song by Albert Collins.....I ain't drunk I'm just a drinking.

I drink because I enjoy the taste of the beer, wine or spirit that I am drinking at the time. When I get "the Taste" I tend to drink more and it doesn't matter how much I drink I don't get written off. Other times I can have a few quiet cleansing ales and wind up feeling snakes hissed on 2 or 3 longnecks.

Ive always enjoyed beer, but since taking up home brewing even more so.

If it is commercial beer, then it is interesting to compare it to HB. Can also lead to recipe ideas.

I really like drinking beer I've brewed myself though. You have made it with your own hands, and when youve tried something different and its worked a treat then it makes the drinking even more enjoyable.

Every HB that you drink...you find yourself judging the clearness...head... etc etc .... and it helps you plan your next brew.

Darned fine hobby if you ask me!

Tipsy, by the hard stuff......i meant your spirits i suppose, but from your smilie i gather you knew that. :D

I guess you have to drink less spirits to get the same result, so its all relevant. The reason i mentioned the hard stuff was because i had a cousin who litterally drank himself to death, and died of complications brought about by very heavy spirit drinking, day in day out. Being an alcoholic was only the start of his problems.

Anyway, having said this, and the point of my post, is that im no prude....and i love a beer. For taste firstly, then relaxing and getting a bit inebriated every now and again to relax from a stressful job.

I have often thought in my own mind, i never wish to become or be labelled an alcoholic. In fact i reckon im far from it. I can go days, easily without a beer. So i suppose my post was to ask others thoughts.

Thanks for your answers.... :D

as a uni student i have my fair share of pub nights and other such events with free booze...I'm sure you can imagine how they end up.
Generally I don't drink in excess. I'm lucky in that i can have a night out with 6-8 homebrews, microbrews etc. and still have my wits about me...and no hangover :D
I tend to have a beer most nights with dinner and, if i know i don't need to drive durring the day, one or two here and there at uni at things such as band, bbq's etc.

of course I tend to let myself go but that's the way we are...we see, we drink, we fall :P

Paleman, sorry bout your cousin, my brother in law drank himself to death and I know you know how gruesome it is. Its a drug like any other and it effects people in different ways. Most things I say on this site are in jest so I hope I don't offend.
Cheers.

Thats ok Tipsy.

I more often than not post in jest too, ive got a sense of humour thats hard to quell. I suppose im just asking everyone on there thoughts of having a drink, which i do. And how it effects each and every one. Food for thought. :D

Exactly!!

I remember a time many years ago when I was busted for growing a few "special tomato plants" in my back yard (well 6 of them actually...)
Court time comes, and I decide to defend myself. The magistrate asks me what I had to say for myself.

"I smoke cannabis Sir, it is all mine.

"And what is it you do for a living?" the magistrate asks.

"I'm glad you asked Sir. I'm a Senior Brewer for one of the major breweries here in Perth".
(I could see his facial expression change - I wasn't the regular run-of-the-mill bogan being charged with cultivation).

"Sir, I find it quite hypocritical that I can earn a good living making what is, without doubt, a recreational drug. Yet here I am in front of you today about to get a criminal record and a fine for doing something that I choose to do in the confines of my own home".

"I understand what you're saying, but I don't make the laws, I am merely here to enforce them. I would suggest that you take these sorts of matters up with your local MP", the magistrate replied.

"OK Sir, I will do that, but if people in a position like me don't speak up then nothing is ever going to change is it?"

Anyway he must have been at least slightly impressed with my speech, because he fined me the minimum amount for the offence ($300) & no criminal record was recorded. I even got a standing ovation from the bogans in the courtroom as I left!!!

LEGALISE IT!!!!

R.Magnay,

I respect that you have an opinion, and that there may be circumstatnce that causes you to be so vehement in you reply, however, we are adults now and I don't like derogatory name calling. And I reckon I speak for a few others members.

We are better than that mate. Let everybody have their say.

Cheers,

InCider.

No, in all defence to r.magnay......i think this guy Boozer is really pushing his own barrow, and as a newbie needs to pull his head in a tad.

This guy is a new poster. Shooting from the hip, and big noting himself. Enough said i think.
