g'day
I got given a 'VB' kit a while back that's still sitting in the cupboard. It's a tin of goldminers draught and a bag of mixxed sugars which are meant to replicate VB.
Seeing as I don't really wanna waste the time and effort to make a VB clone does anyone have any suggestions on what I could do to alter it and make it worthwhile?
cheers

Probably add your favorite flavour/aroma hop would be a good start

Chuck the bag of sugar, get a light dry malt, and some finishing hops, and mix.

Even as it is it will be far better than VB. VB is so bad it is hard to brew.

Buy a can of Coopers Lager, 500gm of light dry malt, 250gm of dextrose and add 300gm of honey plus 20gm of hallertau or Saaz finishing hops, make to 22 litres brew at about 14 o 16 degrees using Saflager. Let it ferment to about 1012 to 1010, bottle, leave for 3 months then chill it and drink it!!!!!!!!!!!

doesn't relly help at all seeing as I'm trying to clear the cupboard of what i've got.
What would be a nice hops to go along with this style beer? maybe a bit of PoR or cascade??

POR is more of a bittering hop. Cascade will give you a citrusy overtone and is a great hop for porters annd ales.

Simo,
When you say a "bag of sugars" do you mean that it's malt and so forth?
If so, I'd use the can and the bag. If it really is just sugar, ditch it and buy a pack of brew enhancer from your supermarket or homebrew shop.
Depending on how long "a while back" is, I'd buy another yeast from the homebrew shop just in case yours is cactus. A sachet of Saflager will only set you back a few bucks.
While you're at the homebrew shop, get some Hallertauer of Saaz hops. When you're making your beer, get about 10g-15g, put them in a mug and pour boiling water over them. Leave for 10 mins and pitch the whole lot into the fermenter. These hops will give a subtle aroma and taste to your beer.
Cheers,
Oliver

the bag of sugars is a brew converter, unknown quantities of unknown sugars.
I'll give it a crack with 25g saaz steeped for about 15-20mins for a but more kick and saflager yeast which i've got in the fridge anyway.
cheers.
