Newbie question about bottle fermenting

Post by Keleidoscope »

Ok, if the bottles have been sitting there for a few weeks, but they still taste sweet and are flat, I'm pretty sure that means the priming sugar is still in there and secondary fermentation hasn't happened. Probably cause my house has been too damn cold.

What I want to know is, is it too late?

Do they just need more time?

Or should I make sure they are about 25 degrees for the next week and hope it happens then?

If it doesn't happen strait after bottleing, are they stuffed?

It's my first beer brew, before this I have only made cider, so I am pretty clueless...

It will happen. I noticed on another thread you use carbonation drops, I used them only twice and haven't been to happy with them. They seemed to take ages to carb up and even then they were a bit on the flat side. It was the middle of winter though.

Let 'em warm up to about 20 ish degrees, hold 'em there for a week or so. Should all be good.

****OR****

Leave 'em where they are for twelve or so weeks.

Either will be good.

Tipsy, when I bottle any beer I use the carbonation drops and haven't had any problem at all with them. No off tastes, no problem with carbonation 2 weeks room temp and straight in fridge, couldn't be easier. One drops/ stubby or 2 for a long neck.

As has been said Keleidoscope let them sit 20-24 c for 2 weks and she'll be right.

Rotating your bottles will also get things moving a bit faster, as it moves the yeast through your beer.
