The best capper in the business. Apparently its the beez neez and they have been making them for 40 yrs, so that's why I bought them.

Brand new.
Bought today for my brother in-law who wanted one last week, then when I got it he decided he wasn't gonna start up brewing anymore.
I have one now too, so have one excess.

RRP = $60
Sell = $50

Only hrs old, never ever used and in A1 condition.

Can post Oz wide for $13 or pickup can be arranged from Glen Iris or Melb CBD.

Email me if interested at dwj1975@hotmail.com

Cheers Guys,
Oscar.

You can buy homebrew gear from Mitre 10?

well I can anyway, but its not a massive selection. about 4 types of coopers cans (just the basics), caps, most basic equiptment (including heat belts!) but only malt shovel starters kits. Ask at your mitre 10 and see if they have anything. On a sad note, the bottle brush I bought from there doesnt actually fit into a longneck. What is the point of that?

Anyway, I just noticed my super automatica capper has a magnet in the bell, so you can put a cap in it, then the bottle underneath rather than just resting the cap on the bottle. I dont know if this is standard, but the SA is a pretty cool device :)

If you read around, you'll see that many homebrewers rest the cap on the top of the bottle and let it sit for a few hours with the idea that the initial fermentation of the priming sugar will produce CO2 which will drive out the oxygen in the air-space at the top of the bottle before crimping it down with the capper. The reason for doing this is that the oxygen could lead to off flavours in the beer.

It sounds fine in theory, but although I'm not an expert brewer, I'm pretty sceptical. There's not very much oxygen in that much airspace, especially when you consider it in proportion to the volume of beer (more so with longies of course).

I thought that was a cool idea, but in practice it seems easier to rest it on top of the bottle! Unless I'm doing something wrong...

ive test capped a few bottles with it and I found it alot easier to put the cap on the magnet. If i put the cap on the bottle it tended to fall off as I slid the bottle in (i have the capper set as low as possible to ensure a tight fit)

I've found it makes a substantial difference whether you're using rolled neck or twist neck bottles (rollies vs twisties). I've found that capping twisties is harder, and if I stick the cap in the capper I'm more likely to have the cap on skewed. (sigh, take it off, try again.... - mmmm rollies).

Capping sounds like a lot of work

Coopers PET bottles
Bundaberg Ginger Beer glass bottles (take Coopers plastic screw caps)
Saxby's Ginger Beer (same as above)
Grolsch Swing tops

Superautowhatica?????????

The swingtops are great. I'm slowly building up a collection - forcing down Grolsch is a sore trial (provided I don't buy them too frequently and incur the wrath of Mrs DrTom re the mortgage &c &c ;-)).

Recently picked up three 1.5 litre Grolsch swing tops

Emptying them was a struggle

The things you have to endure

Hmm, I tested some with the magnet and some by resting the cap on top of the bottle. It is possible that the ones I tested with the magnet just so happend to be twist tops. I'll experiment again next time.

It seems like if you rest it on top of the bottle you can't miss. I can't see how the magnet is better.

Its not that hard, I'd rather do it than cap those Coopers PET bottles. After 10 minutes twisting those tops on my hands end up red raw. Wouldn't mind a few of the swing-top bottles though

Its also just fun capping them! It's like you're producing your own commercial beer bottles with proper caps on em.

One question, how hard am I supposed to be pushing down on the handle? Last time (my first time using a bench capper) I wasn't sure so I pushed down really hard just to be sure. I get the feeling you only have to push until you feel the cap pop onto the bottle, which isn't very hard at all.

Just don't mention the caps lock key[*]

Tom
[*] For the benefit of those who didn't have years of Usenet before Bill Gates invented the Internet, there used to be interminable flame wars whenever the caps lock key was mentioned about whether or not the caps lock key was evil, and where it should be located[**].

Sorry! I have a bad habbit of doing that. At least we've attracted more attention to your sale! (maybe)

Hopefully it doesn't turn into a discussion about thread hijacking now...

just out of curiosity, how much are the superautomatica's in Melb as I really need one to take advantage of my bowls club twistop bottles.

By butterfly opener only cracks the neck so I need to downforce of a bench capper.

I called 2 HB stores & both said there had them for $60.
That is the general going price.

Mine (brand new - never used) can be had for $45.
I'm losing money, but sick of it hanging around.

I am inner eastern Melb.
