I am wanting to put down a pilsner and was wondering what to folks put forward as their best pilsner recipe?

Dunno about best, but this comes from the HB&B homepage under the Q&A section. Haven't tried yet. I am going to put one down tomorrow.

Try this for a good Pilsner. It's hoppy and malty. Delicious.
INGREDIENTS
1 can Cooper's Pilsner
1.2kg light dried or liquid malt
40g Saaz hop pellets
METHOD
Add 200g of the malt and 20g of the hop pellets to 2 litres water. Bring to the boil and simmer for 20 minutes. Be careful it doesn't boil over, as it creates one hell of a mess. After 20 minutes, add the rest of the hops, cover and turn off the heat. Leave it for another 20 minutes.
Meanwhile, mix up the malt and can as usual, dissolving it all in boiling water and adding to the fermenter. Strain the hop mixture and add the liquid to the fermenter. Discard the hops.
Top the fermenter up to 22 litres, getting the temperature to about 20C. Pitch the yeast, seal the fermenter and put it somewhere cool. About 14-16C would be fine. It might take a full two weeks to ferment because of this lower temp, then another few days to clear.

I put this down yesterday

1 Can Thomas Coopers Pilsner
1.5 kg tin of Morgans Extra Pale Malt
200 gm of Wheat Malt
1 Teabag of Morgans Finishing Hops (Saaz)
Saflager W34/70 yeast

Can muntons premium pilsner
1 brewcraft #62 czech pilsner converter
dry wheat malt 500g
saflager yeast
final volume 22l
fg 1012

Everything they make is great. They have a few brands, just to confuse you:

X-tract - 3kg tins. just add water, so they are not much fun, but they are awesome by themselves. I just change yeast, although they all come with saf.

Wals - 1.7kg cans. Just like coopers, but way better. There are visable hops floating in the can. Saf. Do not boil these.


Wetpaks - This is basically an extract brew. Takes a 60min boil. You get 3kg can, 150g Speacialty grain, saf, finishing hops, and also things like oak chips or orange peel, depending on the kit.
These are great.

Rapid Creek - 1.7kg cans. I have only tried the stout, which isnt ready yet . I dont know what the difference is between these and wals.


I only really buy wals, wetpacks, or xtract now. or grains for partials.
I dont buy other brands, because of the high quality of The Country Brewers Range.

Have you used the ESB 3 kg packs, T.C.?

The Country Brewer products are either very good or we have some undeclared affiliation floating through the threads

They are good. I actually go out of my way to get the Wals Pilsner.

thanks carbo will deffinately have to try these and i really dont think ill have to much trouble spending the $100

Had a look at the country brewer website and the kits look great,will be giving them a go shortly. by the way just as a note for non new south welshmen there is a postage charge but the costs are very reasonable..

To my way o thinking there are only 3 to choose from;

Xtract by Country Brewers, or
Wals by Country Brewer
TCB Wetpack

I'm just about to go and bottle an attempt at copying Little Creatures Pilsner.

1 can MSB two row
hop tea: 25g hallertau + 12.5g saaz

made as directed to 11.5l with kit yeast.

left to do it's thing for 3 weeks,

racked at SG 1.010 (at this point, realized that my notebook contains no intial gravity - bugger)

left in secondary for 3 weeks

at bottling, tastes and smells fantastic.

Free delivery is only in NSW. Still worth it though, I just bought 4 of the Wetpacks and delivery was about 13 dollars.

Go the Country Brewer! makes average HBrewers look like a pro. A couple of lads at work were stunned by the quality. I take some of the credit, but the Wetpacks are practically foolproof.
Seriously, no affiliation and lucky to be a turbo piss from the original Thornleigh Store. Both the boys are good blokes and great source of advice.
I agree with a few of the lads here - the best product offering around. Both were avid HB'ers before starting the bus. so appreciate the mindset and wants of the average brewer.
