Have just tasted what i have called 'Clarries Special'. It is by far the best black I have done.

Coopers dark Ale
1kg light dry malt
350 grams Choc grain
50 grams roasted barley
20 gms goldings
10 gms williamette
Safale S04.

This beer is dark, thick and creamy. Chocolate and toffee with slightly burnt aftertaste. Seems to have hit the balance (for me). And mates who drink Tooheys Old prefer this!!

My question is about the Coopers Dark Ale can.

I was given a heap of Cooperes dark Ale cans and have experimented with them endlessly but I havent tried any other dark ale extracts as yet.

What do you guys recommend for a dark ale base? Is coopers the pick or could I try this with another type of dark can?

Cheers

My favorite Dark Ale is Tooheys.

1 x can Tooheys Dark Ale
1kg Liquid Choc Malt
500gm Dark malt
20gm Willamette dry hopped

Make up to 20 litres...yummmmmmmm.

My favourite is also Tooheys.

Can Tooheys Dark Ale
Country brewer Dark Amber sugar (500g dextrose, 300g light malt, 200g dark malt)
250g extra dextrose

Simple, MUCH better than Tooheys Old from a stubby.

I did a coopers dark ale way back when and actually brewed it to the can instructions ie: used white sugar  And from memory it turned out to be one of the best beers i had brewed at the time, although saying that it would probably be even better now with the knowledge i have accumulated over the years. My next one when i get around to it will deffinately have no sucrose in it
