Muntons 3kg English Bitter

Post by Ash »

Hey all,

I'm going to put this one down tomorrow, just looking for a little advice.

I have...

Muntons 3kg English Bitter kit (two 1.5kg tins)
12g Goldings Teabag
12g Fuggles Teabag
Safale S04 Yeast

Should I steep the teabags, boil them or do one each way?

Any suggestions?

Cheers
Ash

Do you mean "Traditional Biter"?If so, I couldn't handle it.

I was scared it would be overly bitter, so I added no extra hops. the fermenation went fine, tried it after 3 weeks and OMG it was soooo bitter. But if you dont mind off-the-scale-bitter beer then go for it. I actually got a gut ache from a 100mls !!!

Muntons Gold Old English Bitter

I'll steep them then.

I made a two can brew dubbed "Sock Remover" with a pair of Coopers Bitter tins & like it so I think I'll be fine with this one.

Edit: did a bit of reading on Munton's site... I loved their Yorkshire bitter (much lower EBUs) & this kit has the same EBUs as the one you reckoned is too harsh.

Just put it down today as per follows... (copied from my Brew Diary)

Brew Ingredients: Muntons Gold English Bitter 3kg kit. 1x 12g teabag Goldings, 1x 12g teabag Fuggles, 1x 11.5gm SafAle yeast.

Brewing notes: Added kit to ~3l boiled water, made up to 21 litres with refrigerated filtered water, steeped Fuggles for 15min, Goldings for 10min. Pitched yeast at ~28deg, wrapped fermenter in towel to keep cool. OG: 1042

Will report back later, trying to make something like the Brewcraft/Muntons Kilkenny recipe for less money & all malt.

Maybe I should have posted this in recipes? Doh!
