I have just brewed one of these, and tried my first bottles last night. A good beer, but not one I would rave about. My recipe was:

Morgans Yukon kit
Amber Dry Malt 1kg
600gm dextrose
Safale s-04 yeast
23 litres.

It seems to me, very much like a Tooheys Black, with a hint of smokey aroma.

If I were to do it again, I think I would substitute the dextrose with maltodextrin, or something to give a bit more body (seems a bit thin, or watery for a brown ale). Maybe a 1.5kg liquid amber malt, plus 250gm maltodextrin (I like to boost the alcohol a little to about 5.0-5.4%).

You're right about thin scblack. I just finished another bottle of this before I logged on and was thinking the same.

Sounds like 15-18L might do the trick next time.

Tipsy, what recipe did you use for this one?

Looking back it was just 1.5kg of LME and 250g dex with kit yeast.
scblacks recipe sounds a lot better or use Chris's idea and top up to 15-18lt
