Should I bottle cider yet?

Post by DL »

Hi again,

So I've got a cider that's been in primary for a month today (don't have a secondary fermenter to rack into - hope it's not autolysed) and the airlock is still bubbling! Admittedly not nearly as much as earlier - probably once every 2-4 minutes rather than every 30 seconds. I checked SG about a week ago and it was already down to 1006 so I'm guessing it's a bit below that now having been bubbling for a week since then. Do you think it's safe to bottle yet?

Normally I wouldn't ask, I would just be patient and wait it out, but I'm moving in about 2-3 weeks, and I wanted to try and put down a ginger beer before then. But time just keeps on ticking away with this damn cider. Better be damn good. At least it'll be nice and clear.

Cheers,
DL

Take another gravity reading. If it is still 1006, bottle. If it has moved on then sit tight.

Cheers,

I've had ciders drop below 1000. 0998 from memory.
