Toucan coopers stout

Just put down a toucan coopers stout - was on special and sounded like a nice rich brew to do now in advance for some winter drinking.
Wasn't till after I put it down I read the kit has an IBU of 43, so my toucan is going to give me 86 IBU. I don't mind high hopping levels for a stout but this sounded huge. Do any commercial brews get anywhere near that level?
Anyone else done a brew with an IBU like this?

The two can stouts are popular. Most find that they are not too bitter. The bitterness will mellow, so if you find it too bitter just leave the bottles to mature a bit and you may be surprised just how good a stout you get. Another popular variation on this is to use a Stout and a Dark Ale.
Cheers,
Greg

I tried one of my last Stout + Dark Ales I brewed back in April and it is a lovely brew.
It started really bitter and them some real nice caramel flavours appeared
The bitter disappeared for a while and I would have called it a sweet stout
But now it seems that the beer is really well balanced
Cheers

Yeah, they all mellow out over time.

Looks like I have the nice winter drop I was hoping for. Had seen the stout + dark ale toucan mentioned on the forum a fair bit but didn't find anything much on toucan stout. Might try another toucan with 500G of LDME next for an extra stout.
Now all I have to do is stop the bloody thing from Krausening all over the dining room or there will be none left - lucky the boss is not home. It's at 28C and bubbling everywhere. First time this has happened to me in my short brewing experience, hope it is a good sign.

Or you could do a RIS, Can of Stout, Dark Ale, Lager, 500g each Dex & LDME. Put the fermenter in the bath as it will krausen to the moon.
Super krausen is not a bad sign for the beer. It is, however, bad for the linen table cloth.
Cheers,
Greg

Super krausen! The fermenter looks like a mr whippy cone with a double serve on top.
The RIS sounds like an XXXtra stout... might work my way up to that but another toucan with 500g or 1kg LDME sounds like one I can cellar for some time
I am considering taking around 1.5L off the wort of the next batch (into a sterile PET bottle) shortly after pitching the yeast and refrigerating until it is time to bulk prime (read on the forum this is also called krausening). That way no sugar at all

does this sound about right for a 23L brew?
