I recently brewed a Tooheys Dark Ale with 1kg brew enhancer 2 and 250g LDM. Turned out very similar to a Carlton Black.

Ta, i just read Oliver's post about the first time he tasted Carlton Black probably the reason i've received very little feedback on this one. Just drinking a Coopers Bitter that was one of my first stuff ups. I did it with BE1 not having read up much before i did it and strangely enough it tastes kinda similar to Carlton Black. Was given another tin of it so might try it with BE2 and 500g LDM soon, this one is way too bitter. The best sucess i've had so far was the Canadian Blonde, i prefer the lighter style beers just need a few more receipes or i'll end up making lagers and blondes all the time.

I have had the gross misfortune of tasting Carlton Black and it is peurile!!!
Tooheys Old on the other hand is a great beer. I guess you could make any dark ale and then add heaps of POR hops to get that bitter taste you get from Carlton, unlike the rich, malty flavour of Tooheys.

Apologies to all for becoming a GRAMMER NAZI but....
PUERILE
[pyoo-er-il, -uh-rahyl, pyoor-il, -ahyl]
adjective 1. of or pertaining to a child or to childhood.
2. childishly foolish; immature or trivial: a puerile piece of writing.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[Origin: 1650-60; < L puerīlis boyish, equiv. to puer boy + -īlis -ile]
Synonyms 1. youthful, juvenile. 2. juvenile, silly.
I have been called PUERILE many times.
A more apt description of your feelings towards Carlton Black might be 'horsepiss'.
Right out on a limb here - I reckon they (Carlton and Tooheys Old) are both horsepiss. Give me my Clarries Special Chocolate Black anyday.
