Sparkling Golden Ale

Post by Pale_Ale »

I've just cracked a bottle of my first JSGA attempt, and what a beer! I brewed with a Thomas Cooper Sparkling Ale kit and it tastes like a cross between Coopers Sparkling and James Squire Golden Ale.

This is one brew I will have serious trouble not drinking for a few months!

Has the aroma and initial flavour of JSGA, but then moves onto the biting aftertaste of PoR in the back of the mouth.

Did not think extract and dry yeast could taste this great!
Coopers.

Im going to have a go this weekend at a Golden clone.

- Thomas Coopers Draught
- Coopers Amber Malt Extract

Simmer Amber Malt + 15gms Amerillo for 15mins
Additional 30gms Amerillo at flame out
Safale Yeast

Maybe another 20gms Amerillo dry hopped in the secondary!

Should be a hop monster :)

Cmon Pale, whats in yours mate ?

Ok, here's my recipe:

1.7Kg Thomas Coopers Sparkling Ale
1.5Kg Coopers Light Malt Extract
15g Amarillo @ 30 minutes
15g Amarillo @ 15 minutes
15g Amarillo @ 2 minutes

Pitched 22C
Fermented 20C

Primary: 7 days
CC: 7 days 3C

Bulk primed with 170g Dextrose

Must stress that it isn't a GA clone, it's more bitter, but it's still bloody tasty!
Coopers.

Mine isn't a spot on clone either, but it's a pretty good starting point IMHO

I forgot to mention, my recipe is a 20L volume.

Also, suggestions to get it closer to JSGA would be to change hop schedule to:

15g @ 15mins
15g @ 5 mins
15g dry hopped in secondary
Coopers.

Did this recipe recently, (23L) will be tasting it this weekend. I went the milder hopping schedule as you suggested PA and damn, after dry hopping it smells beeeeeeeeewdiful! Tis my first, all malt, racked, dry hopped beer! Tried combos of these methods but never in the one beer so am drooling over my keyboard just thinking how good this will taste!

And, as i promised, its called PaleAles 'show me the way to amarillo' sparkling ale! A bugger to fit on a label so its simply brew #30.

Looking at a house this weekend to buy - the ad says it has a 'boys room complete with bar'. A few kegs and Docs bar will be up and running....... will list happy hour here......

May be getting a little ahead of myself....

That sounds like it will turn out great...I haven't put down the reduced hop schedule version yet, but I bet it will be close!

Ash, re: your recipe, which I mentioned, I have the ingredients for http://www.homebrewandbeer.com/forum/vi ... php?t=4363
in your opinion, does it need more hops? or should I go the recipe as is?

Cheers

if anything, a little more amarillo at flame out or dry in the secondary for aroma - bitterness & flavor are good as is IMO

(I didn't rack this one, I took my first drink from the keg the day before it reached 2 weeks of age)

Second hopping schedule looks the go Pale.

What temp did you ferment at? and did you use a specialty Ale yeast or just the Coopers?

I am just setting up my brewing fridge for controlled temp brewing and will definatelyu give this a go.

Amarillo are sure a great hop!!!!

Hi Wassa,

I used the kit yeast and fermented at 20.

When I do it next time I will be fermenting at 18C.

On paper, it's a simple easy brew, but it does taste great!
Coopers.
