Great idea. One suggestion though, cut out your local HBS completely, it's obvious he doesn't deserve your business.

There's plenty of online stores that will sell you grain at good prices via mail order - check out http://www.grainandgrape.com.au/kits.htm .

There are relatively few people on these forums (only about 200 at last count) so you may want to put an ad in the community section of your local newspaper.

I'd look at Grain and Grape online also. They have a superb range and good staff. The best homebrew shop in Melbourne, in my humble opinion.
