Stouts

Just put down my second stout. thought I'd experiment with 2kg malt.

Coopers Stout Tin
2kg Dark Dry Malt
100g Chocolate grains
100g Roasted grains
24g Fuggles boiled 50min
Safale S04 yeast


My first used a stout mix from the brew shop is was :

Ballarat Home Brew Sovereign Gold Stout
1kg Stout Mix, Dark malt, Roasted grains, Fuggles Hops
Not sure what yeast was, was not labeled
10ml Liquorice extract
Bulk Primed with 90g sugar

5 Weeks in bottle, needs a few more months, tastes like liquorice.

This is what I have brewing now:

"loaf stout"

Ingredients
Malt Shovel Oatmeal Stout
Muntons Export Stout
Malt grain choc (ebc500-800) 200g
Hop pellets Goldings 15g 60 min boil
Hop pellets Goldings 10g 10 min boil
SAFale S-04 yeast



Brew Notes - steep choc malt grain in 4 litres (2L steep, 2L rinse), sieve to wort and boil hops. add Kit's and bring to rolling boil flameout and cool, top with chilled water and pitch yeast starter at 24 degrees.

currently going well

brewed on sat morning,

O.G 1.044 - 24 deg.

tasting quite smooth atm, stil abit sweet. starting to develop some character and the bitterness is there. I think the use of the MSB kit is a smart substitue to using the dry dark malt. should turn out to be a good 'milk' style stout. As the name states you could cut it like soughdough!

Not really that heave for a stout it's just a 2 can brew.
I would halve the choc though, IMHO.

I've seen a few 2 can recipes on the forum now, I'll have to try it soon. My next brew will just vary the hops, try different style amounts etc. I have not used hops until my last 2 brews.

I went for the 2kg malt to see what is was like :wink: Up till now i have only done brew booster packs etc.

I recently made a toucan stout with 300g brown sugar, 200g rolled oats, 150g choc, williamette finishing hops.
Geez, you can carve this one with a knife. But suprisingly low OG at 1050.

This one worked great for me - just popped a few this weekend and they turned out fantastic.

Oatmeal Milk Stout

1 can Cooper's Stout
150 g Chocolate Malt Grain
250 g Rolled Oats
1 kg Dextrose
200g Lactose
10 ml Liquorice extract
Cooper's yeast culture
15g Fuggles @ flameout
10g Fuggles in secondary
