Can anyone recommend a good first 'proper' lager recipe?

Morning all,

I've been brewing ales for the past 6 months with some success, now I want to try my hand at a lager because it's starting to get a bit cool in my makeshift brewery. What would be a good recipe for a first stab at a proper lager? I was considering getting a can of Coopers Bavarian + extra malt + saflager yeast. Any other ideas?

Cheers,

Tim

Lethaldog has made a world-renowned Becks Clone. Given that you can only buy clones of Becks in Australia, you might actually make a superior brew!

The Coopers Bavarian does come with a lager yeast.

My best lager to date was the original Coopers series with BE2 + some cascade & chinook hops and Saflager S23. This was brewed in winter in the coolest part of the house before I had the brew fridge. I also let it sit in secondary for at least a few weeks.

I'll be doing some more lagers this winter & only use the fridge for primary. I'll get another/more cubes & just leave them stored for a month or so.

Don't do what I did. Ensure there is a clear pathway from the front door through to any part of the house your significant other will want to get to...

It sounds like a 'lager cube tripping incident' has put you off making lagers. :)
