If I remember rightly, the James Squire porter has quite a strong roasty flavour, so you might try using a Cascade Chocolate Mahogany Porter kit, and steep about 50g of Roast Barley. I suspect it might come out a bit sweeter than the JS one, perhaps use 500g dex and 500g LDME with it to keep the body lighter and increase the apparent bitterness.

P.S. The James Squire Brewhouse down the docklands has the ingredients of each beer on the wall... if I remember rightly the porter one is in the hallway that leads to the toilets. Of course, they don't have how much of each ingredient you need on the wall...

I made one of these little babies after my first taste of JS, and it blew me away.

1kg of roast malt!? OMG...

they mean dark dry malt extract....

So like the Morgans Black Roasted? That would make a lot more sense.

I introduced myself to that fine establishment on tuesday night. best night in ages.

I love the James Squire Porter as well so i tried doing the Brewers Selection Porter, I think the same guys that done the E.S.B Brewery Fresh Wort.
Its only been in the keg over a week but tastes great. Also its the easiest beer to make, just add five litres of water. Even i havnt stuffed it up. I think the best tasting homebrew i have had!!

like the sound of it. will have to book a time a bit down the road though, got a lot of things on at the moment. my car's just kicked the bucket so i've just sorted some stuff out and am picking up a 2002 dual fuel Magna on tuesday.
