Greetings one and all,

With my previous brews and advise I have read, I put everything in the primary fermenter and the add yeast where I leave it to so it's work.

I've just pu in a honey wheat beer in an the can says to stir in the yeast for 30 seconds... which I did without thinking...

I've never heard of this before and there is not action from the fermenter but it was only a few hours ago.... and it's cold so I might have to get a heating belt.

I have stirred yeast in before no probems, now I rehydrate it then add it and give a bit of a stir to mix it in.

A few hours is probably a bit early to base asumptions on, some of mine have taken up to 24hrs before I notice anything happening.

Also reference the cold, depends on how cold and what type of yeast you have added, have you got more info?

i'll bet its rip roaring tomorrow, im now into rehydrating, but either way, patience is a virtue for the homebrewer...

i wouldn't be too worried about.. wait till tomorrow and if there are still no signs of fermentation happening such as bubbling through the airlock or some visible krausen or a sg reading to see if there are any changes.. if still no signs of fermentation i will repitch another packet of yeast..
i wouldn't be too worried if i was you

I don't usually stir my yeast, i just pitch it in after i mix the contents in the fermenter once i fill it up to the 21 litre mark.. i used to stir the yeast, and it ws ok..... but was told it was unecessary.. i don't dehyrate them as well as i am told i should...i did have one brew that i had to repitch.. but i do think the rehydrating is a good idea...

Best sign is condensation on the lid... it is too easy to have a problem with the seals to make a call on whether or not the fermentation has started based on the airlock.

Current tep is 17 degrees which i think is probaly a little low.

Tis is also the first time I haven't actually put in powder but te homebrew guy gave me what I have so I assumeit's not neded.

Temp today was 16 degrees and still no fermentation.... got myself a brew belt and will see if that helps...

Do I need to re-pitch the yeast or is the cool temps making the yeast still ok?

Warm it up to about 22 or so, then give it a day. If it's not brewing, pitch more yeast. The stirring won't have been a problem, it would have been recommended in the instructions as a way to oxygenate your wort.

Thanks heaps guys for putting my mind at ease. I got a brew belt and the beer has been bubbling away quite nicely.
