oops

Link above is the shocker i had last night.....anyhow

This started as a standard beer, with plans for lots of LDM, Belgian Sugar, Goldings Hops and 2 Yeasts leftover, just having fun throwing stuff in together and seeing what it is like

Ended Up
1Kg of Belgian Specialty Sugar made from Raw Sugar,
not cooled, thrown in hot
.5kg Coopers LDM
.5kg Crystal Malt
1Kg minus spillage of approx 100g of CSR Brewing Sugar
100g Golden Syrup
100g Allowrie Honey
10g Cinnamon Sugar
20g Goldings 40 Minutes
10g Goldings 30 Minutes
15g POR 19 Minutes
2 x Coopers Pale Ale Yeasts.
SG 1054

It was sweet and not Malty, probably due to lack of malt  .

I will rack and throw in Goldings again, most likely 20g, for aroma.

Cheers

Huh? :?

Got the STFU as someone kindly emailed me the meaning  , but please explain, Pauline?

Thanks for the quality reply Ash :? Maybe a reply such as "Well Boonie, what you should have done was........blah blah blah, because it needs Nutrient to grow....blah blah blah"

 The only thing I learnt was what STFU meant

Hey, I was blotto & trying to be funny.

yeah, my point was there might not be much nutrient for the yeast in there - perhaps I should have used a few emoticons to show I was posting tounge in cheek?

Sorry

No probs Ash.

I got a little pissed off with STFU :? that's all.

More malt? as I only added a 1/2 kilo of LDM and 'steeped' the 1/2 kg of grain? Or should I have stewed some old crappy yeasts for nutrient?

Cheers

definitely needs more malt :)

if it was me, i'd boil up a couple packs of cheapo yeast now in a little bit of water and add it to the brew after it's cooled a bit (with the lid on the pot).

My understanding is that without enough yeast nutrient the yeast have to work harder to produce the required nutrient from the sugars in the wort which can potentially slow down fermentation & let another "bug" get hold (aka infection) or the yeast may produce unwanted byproducts from working to hard.

I essence I was saying you were telling your yeast to STFU & deal with it

If your intention was to make a beer/mead hybrid (I think the term is braggot) then IMO you've gone the right way about it ingredient wise EXCEPT for not putting in some yeast nutrient.

AFAIK throwing some old yeasts into the boil is the cheap go, tho I wouldn't mess with it now. see how it turns out, you may love it as is

Anyone smarter than I want to comment on the needs/methods of yeast nutrient?

Definately keep me posted on the outcome Boonie, I've had similar ideas before but never followed through with it

I get it now...........I thought you were telling me to STFU  I put in 2 Sachets of Coopers PA Yeast that come with a can, so fingers crossed there were enough to go hard, so to speak.

I wasn't after a mead hybrid, I just like throwing stuff together and seeing how it turns out

It seems to be cooking OK and I will keep you posted on the results.

The main ingredient in beer is malt mate and you have only put in half a kilogram. I don't like your chances of getting a good result with this one. I see zero body and an extremely dry finish with a high alcohol content. I woulndt call it an ale though. More like a brewed sugar drink.

I called it an ale morgs, as I refer to all my beers in slang as an Ale. It definately is not an "Ale". You know what I'm saying, "I'm going to have a quiet ale when I get home"

Thanks for your help on this one guys, with all the trouble I had with brewing it, see oops at the top, I would not be surprised  .

Interesting reading the mead link Ash. Never had a mead before, but after the replies, it looks like that may be the track I was heading down by accident.

I think I'll stick to tried and tested recipes on this site and adjust from there in future IE: have a bae to start from

Cheers once again fellas,

Well I racked it yesterday and today it is "swimming with the fishes", well down the drain anyway.

Needless to say this is the worst "Beer" I have tasted/made. It didn't even taste like beer.

My face looked like I had chewed on lemon covered in a Male cats wee

Oh well that's what happens when you go out on a limb, except the branch snapped  I had the shits as I had crap everywhere and had a brain snap.

I put down another 3 batches yesterday and will do another today, of existing recipes like the LCPA I posted and a Coopers Blonde with Casade  .

Cheers for all your help fellas, I will post recipe before pitching
