special draught

Heres a nice recipe for everyone to enjoy
1 can wander draught( or any other draught variety)
1kg light dry malt
25 grams cascade hops
25 grams golden cluster hops
safeale yeast US56
cook your hops for 10 minutes just before flameout
mixed in with dry malt, then add the can of malt
fill up in fermenter, add water to 19litres
doesn't have to be wander draught,
it was on special so i thoughti try it.
Anyway, the draught turns out to be pale straw yellow in colour
and the taste is fruity and floral , so very nice

Just out of curiosity, were you looking for aroma as well as flavour from your hops?
It's just that you could save some money if you boiled say 15g or so of each hop for 20min instead of 25g for 10min.
If you then wanted aroma as well, you could either dry hop the rest, or add for a minute after flame out.
Just an idea.

Yeah I like the look of this recipe. Wander kits are dirt cheap and come up bloody well. I've done a heap of Munich lagers with all sorts of fermentables, in toucans and 1/2 batches made up to 11.5 litres with no fermentables. Best of all they're only around a dollar more than homebrand beer kits.

thanks boonie yeah its a nice recipe.
chris i was looking at both aroma and bit extra flavour as i'v not
done any dry hopping, i just put both hops in together thats all.
Wildschwein, glad you like the recipe as i liked reading your blog and recipe
caught my eye that was pislner you did with light and dark malt and dex,
Your recipe sounds good for any pilsner tin ie wander pilsner dark and light malt + 25grams of saaz hops, minus the dex, although i wonder if you
could add in some wheat malt as well?

Absolutely. I think about 150-200g of wheat malt as part of the fermentables would come really up nice in that recipe. Probably getting into German Altbier style territory. Just adding a bit of wheat seems to give you a huge foamy head and an extra bit of tartness and toasted malt flavour. So I reckon I would defintely advocate that.

Just an update for anyone interested after 4 weeks conditioning in the bottles
my special draught as turned a lovely orange colour, and the taste
of the special draught is fantasic, very hoppy and fruity taste,
I'm not sure whether the change of colour from straw yellow to orange
is a result of the cascade hops or golden cluster hops or combo of both hops.
but definately a very enjoyable brew.
