Corona Question

Post by andyzed »

Hi all

I put down a Morgan's corona mix yesterday about 1pm.

Mix was the following.

- Morgans canadian Light
- 12g Super Alpha Hops
- Brew Booster incl 500g dex, 250g maltodex, 250g malt ext
- yeast from the kit.
- temp is sitting steady at 22 deg
- 22 litres

Got up this morning and it's bubbling beautifully, prob every 5 - 10 secs. Thing is is there is no head, foam, froth whatever on the brew. Is this normal?? I can see in thru the lid and there's alot of action going on in there but just wasn't sure if it should have a foam etc or not.

This is only my 2nd brew but my first ( coopers lager kit that came with the kit ) had a sort of foamy head on it early on which settled down later. Is this just a difference between the kits that i can come to expect as i brew on or is there something else i should be doing.

I'm pretty sure i'll get told to sit back, grab a beer and relax and that all is good but thanks for any feedback anyone can provide.

Coopers yeast seems to be more "firey" and creates a more spectacular krausen. Morgans yeast takes a bit longer to go off and may not give you any "foam/head" at all. Don't let it worry you much. Also it is not helped by all the dextrose you added!
Prost and happy brewing!

I could be wrong about this, but I'm not sure corona style beers have much in the head department anyway. I wouldn't be too concerned.

I made a Coopers Cerveza clone of the Corona and it had a fairly nice head on it. Though I did add 1.5KG of LDME and 250g each of lactose and dry corn syrup. Turned out quite nice!

thanks guys, due to my limited experience i was led by the dude in the hbs. he said you need this this and this and gave me the ingredients so i wouldn't have a clue bout the dex but it'll be interesting to see how it turns out.

How close was it to a bottle of Corona? I haven't attempted one yet, but would like to. The main reason i haven't, is that there seems to be a LOT of varied opinions on what the right Extract concoction should be. Most people post "it turned out pretty good but wasn't anything like a Corona".

interested in your recipe of you reckon you got close...

Don't worry too much about the dex. 4 this style of beer 500g is perfectly in order, to give you the thinness of Mex beers. I did a Coopers kit with 500mls of rice malt and 500g of dex, and it turned out very well. Although it took 3 weeks in the bottle before the cidery quality all but dissappeared.
Prost!!!!!!!!!!!

Definately a good drop. But not so much like Corona as I had wanted. Closest I have gotten is Mex Cerv can with 500g Dex (though I would now use rice malt as suggested above) and a hand full of limes.

Mine was not close, but still ok.

I did Coopers Mex with 1kg of dex

1 without hops and one with Fresh Saaz hop (NZ grown), that was much better for flavour.

Apparently Morgans is bringing a mexican out too......

Cheers
