Hi everyone,
I'm new to this forum and relatively new to home brewing. I don't drink the crap just help my husband! Do/can you store the bottles in the fridge after carbonation or do they need to be in a cupboard somewhere? Sorry it's probably a dumb question but I haven't seemed to have read that anywhere.
Thanks,
Brewin' Mrs

Hey brewin' mrs,
I store mine in dark cupboard or in crates until ready to drink. with around 300 stubbies on the go I don't have room in fridge for all of them so just chill what i need as I need.
You should try the brews though or get hubby to brew someting for you! If you're going to be involved you may as well get something out of it!

But that's not to say you can't store them in the fridge if you want to (after you've left them out for a couple of weeks after bottling to allow them to carbonate).
The main thing is to keep them in a relatively cool place and away from light. Light and heat are the enemy of beer.

Great to see a brewing mrs on here. Mine helps if she is available on bottling days. She also "doesn't drink the crap" but I make her the odd brew of ginger beer and that goes down well.
Can't get better than someone who helps bottle but doesn't scoff it all.

Under the bathroom sink for me, just near the beer fridge. My dad has a cellar but I cant be bothered walking all the way down there to get the beer

Guess were I am storing my beer now! Yep I have started stacking the brew room!! good thing it is a bit bigger than Lebowski's bathroom sink too! I may have mentioned in an earlier post, I paint a lot of my caps for identication purposes, a tin of cheap spray paint, a sheet of cardboard or newspaper or the kitchen table, bed spread, whatever, lay the caps on it and spray, Presto, you have whatever colour caps you want!

I use a 6 x 4 box shelf with 5 evenly spaced shelves. Each shelf will hold 30 tallies or 60 stubbies. Which is one brew per shelve. I then cover the book shelf with an old curtain. It works a treat with 5 brews per book shelf and each brew easily separated and identified.

In a very cool garden shed under some very dark trees. Even in summer it never gets above about 20 degrees C.

Point taken.
Talking to a friend at Uni who comes from out Broken Hill way - he's dug down into the ground and stores his beer underground.

I am keeping beer in kegs in my kegging fridge.
Some are in bottles and I like to write a two letter code and date on the lid with CD marking pen, much like Coopers yeast.

Guru,
Judging from what I have heard, that is a sure way to screw it up
Not poking fun at you, rather at Coopers. I just write the date on in a way I and most other mortals can figure it out.

I've got an old hot tub that is made of timber and leaks. Haven't been able to find anyone who sells a replacement - its all fibreglass these days -so it has now become a beer storage recepticle. Stubbies go into milk crates (approx 50 stacked) or back into the original carton then into the hot tub and covered with a blue tarp.
I label each beer cap with the date of bottling and can then cross reference with my record sheet

I've got some giant shelves underneath the house. 3 levels of shelves, each that can have 2 cartons stacked on top of each other and about 8 cartons wide. Just trying to fill up at least 2 shelves completely (the 3rd is for empty bottles). There would be nothing like 32 cartons of homebrew ready to go!
Only problem is that it gets a little warm in the summer, but not as warm as the rest of the house.

Can you store beer on its side in say a wine rack or is that a no no? I have about a dozen milk crates down in the wine celler of my brews

I can't see any reason you couldn't lie them down if you wanted to.
The only consideration would be that when you turned them upright you'd stir up the yeast and make the beer cloudy. But if that's not a concern, then you should be OK.
