I have today purchased a "Brewers Selection" Amarillo Ale distributed by nd brewing.

I was going to attempt a Wheat Beer (Thomas Coopers) with Liquid wheat malt and lots of Amarillo, aiming for a Golden Ale Clone.

After a quick "I have some fresh wort kit, Amarillo Ale" mentioned by Hilton at my local HBS, it took me 2.6 seconds to change my mind.........

Any of you guys tried this or have had any experiences from nd brewing (St Peters Brewery)....I know esb have an awesome name with their 3kg kits, but anyone tried this one?

Oh, and I have a us05 (see 56) yeast to go with it....15 litres, just add 5 litres of water and yeast.

Gerard does some pretty good fresh wort kits, loved his choc porter.

Haven't had the Amarillo Ale but he does compare it to a JS Golden Ale and if you think about it, he's done some work at JS, so it could be a very close ingredient list. You could always shoot him off an email asking him if it's worth dry hopping etc. He's a top bloke and is pretty helpful.

I've used it.. its not that good.

Nowhere near hoppy enough... Very, very disapointing. I made a better JSGA clone using a Kit, Kilo and a crap load of Amarillo hops..

I tried it not long ago and agree with DJ, it could do with some more hops. I think I used S-04 because US56 was not available at my HBS at the time.

It ended up with quite a maltly almost earthy grain flavour which I didn't really like, but I think that may be due to the S-04.

One bit of advice, when you pour it into the fermenter, take note of the level it is at before you add the 5 litres of water. I've found that most of the time these fresh worts were more like 14 litres, so filling up to the 20 litre mark on your fermenter would dilute it a bit.

Cheers fellas for the input, I was hoping for a very hoppy beer, so more dry Hopped Amarillo is on the cards 4 sure.

I am putting this one down tonight.

Didn't need the extra Amarillo as it is lovely and hoppy straight from the fermenter.

It has been down for 8 days (delayed start due to flu after City to surf).......could've been the beer I consumed

I did not rack this one , I know, I know, I always rack, but I was very keen to taste this puppy.

This is very similar to LCGA IMO, and I cannot wait for this one to carb up......wish I had kegs

i havent made this but the guy at the HBS had some in the keg and gave me a try. I agree with the other guys, its not hoppy enough to rival JSGA. Still, its a nice beer.
I tried the summer ale too....kinda similar to JS amber ale. a nice one too.

Well, well, well......I put this one in the keg as I had to give it another go.

Compared to when I bottled, this is completely different

It is much nicer and let me tell you it is about 80% like the JSGA. There are hints of the lovely Amarillo in it.
