Ok, how many bottles do you guys (keggers) actually hang on to. I've got a stack of Coopers longies and Schwelmer pils (500mL), and am trying to work out how many I should keep.

I'm definately going to keep the Schwelmer swingtops btw- best bottles I've ever seen!

I'm slowly cutting out the bottles, and will be keeping only the rolltop 2000, 750 & 500 bottles.

I'm slowly getting rid of any bottles which fail one of these tests:
- crown seal
- 750mL or larger
- brown glass

I do this by using them to bottle the beer for a club I'm a member of. Each semester I do three brews for the end of semester event, and I don't recollect the bottles afterwards.

I've certainly stopped collecting bottles.

My problem is that all of my bottles are crown, 750mL and brown- that or brown swingtop.

And I can't stop myself keeping Coopers longies whenever I buy them! It seems like such a waste not to.

Surely you have some homebrewing friends? They sound like the ideal recipients. Either that or make some cash on eBay.

Barely anyone I know down here bottles. Ebay might be a good idea.

I have > 400 longies still. 4 kegs.

Since moving to AG i have upped my brew volumes to 25L so i can keg 19L and bottle the rest. That way i can share the results with ppl who have helped me get to this stage. Also want to keep some so i have some darker beers during the summer with the legs likely to contain easier drinking styles.

I do need to get rid of a few 100 at some stage - prob thru evilbay. That way i could justify buying a few more kegs to condition in.

I use kegs for my beer. Legs just don't have the right volume

I know on the A-team, one of the baddies had a shotgun in his artificial leg.... then the A-team bettered that by putting an M-60 in one of his crutches.... Gold.....

I've been thinking of getting rid of some bottles for a while now, but its just too hard to let go.

I like my bottles. I like choice, and 2 or 3 stubbies a day of different brews does me nicely. Can't ever see myself getting into kegging. Time is not an issue, as I'm retired.

For me it's not so much the time, as the effort. Still wish I had more time to do beer though

And it IS very hard to let go Tipsy. Haven't managed to yet- except for 200 odd plastics.

I found my swingtops gave the beer a slight rubber taste. Not sure if anyone else has had this problem but I have stopped using them. They would probably be fine for full strength beers, but light lagers and pilsners and such take on a touch of the taste and though it is barely noticable, it is there.

If you have any Schwelmer bottles, all donations would be greatfully accepted...

I like choice too, tis why i have 3 taps!

Plus, i love being able to stand behind the bar and pour a pint for an appreciative mate. Or 10 as was the case on AFL GF day when 2 kegs got drained.......

I agree with Chris, much easier to sanitise one container as opposed to 30 odd longies or 60 stubbies.

The ability to dry hop in the keg is not to be underestimated either! Speaking of which, i need a few more tea balls, they dont fit enough hops in for my liking.......

As for letting go, i have managed to throw away nearly 3 dozen longies this year that were either chipped or twist tops.

You can get larger tea ball thingos, I got mine from HOUSE, but i'm sure you'd be able to get them from any decent kitchen place. It has a 4 inch diameter and can hold about 50-60g of hops (that is allowing for expansion too).

Must have missed that one... will go hunting for one this weekend.

I've got the biggish ones from Ross. Is that the size you are talking about?
