A Decent Beer for $2 a schooner?

Parkwood Tavern, Gold Coast.
Left over from Australian Beer Festival (which is more like a Music Festival at which they serve beer!).
Old Admiral, Carlton Black, St Arnou Kildara.
Also have West End Draught and Resch's Draught (separated from above lest you think that I include them in the same category of beers!).
"Run-out" stocks at $2 a schooner (that is pint to any South Australian readers :-) ).
Leave out any flames regarding the decency or otherwise of the beers in question. Confident you will agree price is OK (in Australia, by modern reckoning).
Hope there isn't too much of a rush on these beers: I work within walking distance, and am enjoying a daily stroll at lunchtime these days :-)

deeply disappointed not to be inundated with expressions of severe resentment after my earlier post: am I the only one who likes Old Admiral?

What is Old Admiral?

I've never heard of it.

boutique NSW beer. I dont have much good to say about NSW (other than that it not here!), but this is a very good beer imho.

see e.g. http://www.realbeer.com.au/alefiles/bee ... 8_5437.php

I had not heard of it either until it came to be oversupplied (and hence underpriced at the local).

Tried the Old Admiral at the Lord Nelson Hotel Brewery in the Rocks and it is my idea of a perfect beer. Dark, malty and very satisfying.

Have put it on my "try to copy" list.

Cheers,
Jay.

Word to mother Jay. And it's a great place to drink it in too. Especially in winter.

Every time I visit the Lord Nelson the first ale on the agenda is the Old Admiral a very nice drop and around 8% IIRC. Nelson Blood is not a bad drop for those who enjoy a Porter.

Next exciting installment on beers at $2 at the Parkwood Tavern, Gold Coast.
Old Admiral is off (I think I drank most of it :-) ). Carlton Black is off.
Kildara still on.
Two replacement beers are known to the bar staff there simply as "Blood" and "Rust".
Not particularly alluring names to be sure.
Best I can find from google suggests that the "Blood" may well be Nelson's Blood (from same brewpub as Old Admiral), and that the "Rust" is perhaps a beer of that name from the Five Islands Brewing Company.
Anyone have any better ideas.
Both are quite good, but not in the same league as Old Admiral.
If you are in the vicinity on Sunday afternoon, look for two guys eagerly finishing off the one they currently have to get at the one they dont yet have. I will be the small guy, at 1.88m and 110kg :-)

While I am at it, the staff there are fairly friendly, but maybe best not to poke fun at their arithmentic: they proudly announce schooners at $2, and jugs at $7 (or maybe they know, and just hope to catch some-one out?).

O'Malleys Irish bar in Brisbane city did that to us, I drink guiness and the girl drinks kilkenny so we buy them by the pint, at non-happy hour prices these are $5.50, a mate came in and got a jug of guiness and it set him back $14, mob of wankers. The prats have even got pokies and that in there now (well not all that recently I guess, I am just a hermit who never gets out much)
