Have been brewing for a few years now, still doing basic brews ( coopers ect ) like them so much havent moved on. Just wondering what everyone else thinks.

yeah, i know it doesn't cover exactly what you're after, but have a look around the recipes forum anyway.. you'll find heaps of info there. but keep in mind, one person's absolute favourite brew is going to be another man's rubbish... you'll need to make your own decisions too.

Best easy to make brew is a tin of Morgans, a kilo of malt extract, and a Saf yeast.

My favourite dump-and-stir brew is any 3kg can of goo from the Country Brewer's X-Tract range. Simple, but easy. Good for building up depleted beer stocks quickly, and pretty tasty.

The next step up from that is my favourite 'need beer in a hurry' beer:

Coopers Real Ale can
1.5kg pale liquid malt (or 1kg of light dry malt)
200g crystal (steeped)
20g amarillo (for 20mins)
20g amarillo (dry hopped)

23L total volume.

That is a fantastic (and very simple) APA, and is that step up from dump-and-stir, but miles ahead in flavour.

My favorite is

1 can Tooheys Old
1kg of DDME
15gm of Willamette dry hopped
make up to 22 litres.

Just like the real thing.

Apart from that

1 can Coopers Bavarian Lager
1kg LDME
15gm Hallertau Dry Hooped
make up to 22 litres

Tooheys Dark Ale
1 kg LDME
250 gms dex
15 gms of Amarillo dry
kit yeast

Left to brew for a month

Delish

2x Malt Shovel Deep Roast Ale, kit yeast & nothing else(22 ltrs). Best Beer I've done without really doing anything . Or u could use one can to just 11 ltrs

This one got much acclaim from both brewers and non-brewers:

- Beermakers draught kit
- 150g crystal malt, steeped
- 1kg dry malt extract
- 12g amarillo (sp?) hop pellets boiled for 10 mins
- US SAFale yeast
- dry hop another 10g amarillo when racking.

One and a half can brew.

Two cans Tooheys Dark Ale, one can Tooheys Real Ale, 2kgs Coopers brew enhancer no 1. Make up to 46 ltr and ferment for two weeks. Bottle and prime with white sugar. Drinks fine even after two weeks in the bottle. Not too much bitterness and not a bad copy of Tooheys Old. Comes in at around 70 cents per bottle.

Tooheys Old taste like burnt tires if you ask me........

Yeah, there is a certain smokey taste about it. If your trying to give up cigarettes it can help with the cravings or it can remind you what yor missing.

When you compare it to what else is on offer at the local, they're pretty good tyres IMO!

I don't knwo what they must offer at your local, but Old has to be one of the worse of the darker beers you can buy commercially if you ask me. I was given a whole case once ( father'n'law use to drive for Lion Nathan ), and after having one I gave the rest of the case away. Took a while as it doesn't seem a popular beer around here.

Boonies LCPA is a simple beer but a damn fine drop. Or my reversed hop schedule with added caramalt/crystal.

Pale_Ale JSGA styled ale is a winner

If you add hops and use all malt you are going to end up with a nice beer.

I find if I drink the belgian 8.5% ++ beers I forget where I hid them....
