Question about Morgans Golden Saaz

Anyone use this can? I'd like advice how to use it for maximum benefit. Will use saflager 34/70 and ferment at 12C but would like to produce good pilsner and dont know what else to add. I have some Haletau and saaz hops.

I would just throw in a tin of Morgans Lager Malt, and dry hop the Saaz in secondary. Save the Hallertau for another time ;)

As a fan of Saaz i would suggest adding 15-20g in for a 10 min boil as well. Adds a little bit of spice to the pilsner and i never found there was enough flavour in kits. Either that or steep some for 10 mins in boiling water and then add it to the fermenter.

The Golden Saaz kit actually has a pretty good flavour addition, but if you want a really nice hoppy Pilsner, and you do not mind doing a boil, then I would go with Doc's advice ;)

Use half the Lage Malt in 4L of water, bring it to the boil then add the hops and boil for 10 minutes. Pour into the fermentor with the rest of the extract and the kit, top up with cold water and pitch the yeast. To dry hop, if you are not using a secondary fermentor, just open the lid very carefully and put the hops in, let them sit for 3-5 days then bottle as per normal.

Cheers Kev but it should be given with a warning. I do have a hop addiction and am not keen on under hopped beers :lol:

Thanks guys for the advice- I appreciate it. Does the saflager 34/70 at 12 degreesmake a difference for this brew

Brewing a lager with a real lager yeast at lager temps will make a world of difference!

And Boonie, yes, i admit it. Ive been told the first step in overcoming an addiction is to admit it. I am then supposed to apologise to all those who have had my hoppy beers inflicted on them...... thats a lot of apologising! :lol:

I did this kit with added Saaz both in the boil and dry, think I used nealry 60g. The lager yeast at approx 12 degrees and 2 weeks lagered in the fridge.

Is one of the best beer I have made to date.

Too bad winter is so far off. Think a fridge and temp controller are my next purchase.

I have had great success with this a long time ago....pre-hop adding era. :D

I'll just check my book.........

Yep, Golden saaz with Morgans Pale Malt (batch Y) and it was lovely from memory. FWIW it was done in March where I generally average 20-22 degrees. :shock:

I agree WSC, cannot wait for winter. I've had 2 batches go off out of 5 this summer. One was my fault, but the second was a dud yeast as it did not kick in at a very lively 22 degrees. Added more yeast after 3 days but it is rooted.....oh well, I think I'll relax and have another HB......from my keg :P .

I am willing to sacrifice myslf too doc, just like KEG....all in the name of science :wink:

Sounds good. Mite have to buy this as i have some Saaz left over at home.

15grms Saaz @ 10mins

Cold Conditioned

from memory I did 15 grams for 20mins, 15 grams at 10 mins, then 15grams for 2mins, then 10g dry hop. I really wanted the flavour and aroma to come through and it worked out well.
