Hi guys
Because I haven't really liked any of the beers ( Kit and BE2 enhancer) I have made so far I thought I'd try the Boonie LCPA.
I copied and printed the recipe at work, left work drove 70k's out of my way to get to a HBS get in there and relized I left the recipe at work  and could not remember what hops were used  .

Not letting the trip go to waste I puchased the following.

1.5 kilo Morgans Unhopped Pale malt extract
I sachet of american ale Yeast ( I remember reading somewhere this is the same as us56??)
25 Grams of Perie Hop Pellets ( aa 6.4) For bittering
25 Grams Cluster Hop Pellets ( AA 6.2) For Bittering
25 grams Glacier hop pellets ( AA 4.8 ) for aroma and Flavour

So for the recipe I was thinking

1 can Coopers Real ale ( all I could get from the local supermarket this week)
I can Morgans Unhopped Pale malt extract
9g Perie Hops
8g Cluster
8g Glacier

Heat 6 litres water
Add PME
add Perie for 15mins
Add Cluster for 10min
At Flame out add Cooper real ale

Cool pot in ice slurry then add to chilled tank water in Fermenter pitch yeast at about 20c

wait 4-5 days add Glacier hops. wait a week then bottle.

I reduced the hop quantities from Boonies because if the use of Real ale instead of Pale ale. ( and because I could get 3 brews from the hops, Next brew 8g perie 9 cluster, 8 glacier brew after that shold then be 8 perie, 8 cluster and 9 Glacier)

what do you guys think, Be nice, be bitter, not enough flavour
Any advice, changes, be appreiciated. I plan to do this in the next couple of hours or tomorrow morning as I still need to bottle whats in the fermeter at present.

Cheers
Ron

Well with the gravity and length of that boil you will be adding little to no bitterness. That is probably a good thing because the Real Ale kit is quite bitter already from memory. Pearle is used in SNPA so should suit what you are trying to do here, Glacier is a mix of several aroma hops so that will be nice dry hopped, as for the Cluster it is fairly sharp and may be a bit overpowering. When dry hopping the Glacier hops you want to wait until the fermentation has nearly stopped, probably best to wait 1 week, then add the Glacier then wait 3-4 days before bottling.

Hi Ron,

Yes both the same.

With regards to the hops, you are going to get nothing like a LC pale ale with those hops.
You'll probably get a nice beer, but nothing like you were planning. Finish with the Glacier as planned, as this is the closest to what you want.
LC uses Cascade & chinnock, these are very grapefruity & citrusy. If your heart's set on a LC style beer, get the correct hops, otherwise go ahead & I'll look forward to hearing how it comes out.

cheers Ross

Made the brew
og is 1042 so I expect about low 4's in alcohol content.

What do I need to add to get up in to the High 4's

Cheers
