Guys,

I was wondering if you knew where to get small sheets of food grade high temp silicon.. The O-rings that i have on my bulkhead fittings are made of this material, and i managed to tear one yesterday, so i'm one short, and only 3 days away from brewing...

Could anyone suggest a place.. i'm in WA, but if you know of any national franchises i'll give them a try...

If you need an O-ring, (circular in cross section) this probably won't help, but if it's just a gasket you need.. I've read somewhere you can use a piece cut out of a silicon muffin tray or other silicon baking tray. I haven't tried it but it might be worth a shot if you're running out of time.

You'll have to look into it though, I'm not sure it's entirely safe.

that is a really good idea...

i'll give it a go if things go awry in the future... i just managed to pinch the last one while i was tightening up my bulkhead fitting, and it is not repairable. i replaced it with another oring that came with the mashmaster weldless thermometer that i thought didnt seal as well, but i have just finished mashing my dortmunder lager and there were no leaks..

The silicone baking tray works well as a source of material for cutting your own washers.
I made my own that way to install the tap in my mash tun.
It is food grade, and will easily cope with even boiling temperatures.

Yeah, you can get "baking sheets" too, that are used in place of baking paper, and being just a flat sheet, they're very easy to just cut to the shape that you need.
