'Professional' AG setup

Post by Chris »

Has anyone gone for the following AG setup (or something similar)?

If so, how has it worked out? Is it worth the outlay?

Mash Tun http://www.mountainhomebrew.com/index.a ... ID=4277&HS

Hmmm...

I think you would be better off going an Urn for the HLT... the birko one i have is 30L, has hte sight glass, and non drip tap, and if you forked out another 50 bucks, you would be able to get the weldless thermometer... and that would be cheaper than trying to get that HLT sent from the US...

As for the mash tun, that doesnt look too bad... maybe a little rich..

It's Blichmann so it's good - but not cheap....and the false bottom and valve are "optional" extra's so you'll be looking at around US$400 plus freight!

Sounds like it's worth the investment. Time to work out the GFs reaction if I buy it...

I would look at building a 3 vessel HERMS system with some of those free 50L vessels you have all over your town ;)

One of these systems can be built for half what that will cost you. It will also give a much better product and be easier to use!

If you are not very handy you could always enlist a mate to help, nothing like the offer of free beer to motivate!
Prost and happy brewing!

Not a bad idea. I'm not much of a metal worker- that's my main problem. And I don't know anyone who is anymore.

Well I know for a fact there are a few in Canberra over at AHB. I am sure one of them would jump at the chance to help a fellow brewer! No joke, some of those guys live for that kind of stuff. ;)

:D That is true. Might ask around at the next Canberra Brewers meeting. I'm sure that if they are on AHB and live in Canberra, they'll be there.

Yeah for sure. One such brewer comes to mind, but I will let TL volunteer on his own
