G'day i just started a draught brew today at 11am, however its now 8:48pm and the tempurture is around 16'C,
I'm wondering do i need to use the heat blanket i brought in kmart to keep the temputure higher?

Also I have not heard any bubblying from the yeast yet, i used the yeast packet mixed in a little hotwater and cold water and stirred up and left for about 20 mins on cupboard covered , then i poured into the wurt, i hope it hasn't died , if it has can i just go put some plain yeast into it from the supermarket., if theres no reaction after a couple days?

i am brewing a tooheys special draught, with brew enhancer #15 .

Heat it up, man. 20 is what an ale yeast is needing.

(Tooheys kit yeast is what, exactly, anyone?)

What was your rehydrating temperature? If you do not know, within a couple of degrees, you should. Too hot can kill a yeast, so you may have pitched cooked yeast. 30°C is about all you would be needing for rehydrating in winter. Otherwise, it may just have gone dormat if it is indeed an ale strain. You could warm the fermenter but if the temperature can be kept at 16°C for two weeks, you could pitch one SafLager yeast straight into the fermenter to make a closer tasting beer to Tooheys isn't it.

But yes i ended up puting on my heat belt around the draught brew for most of the day and tempurture went up from 14'C to 18'C, but i decided to chuck
in an ale yeast into the draught just for fun, but i think it was stale yeast too , but i have noticed small pockets of little white blobs starting to emerge ,

I hope it continues on in the new few days because if by next saturday its still the same this brew is getting thrown out, and i'm not brewing anthing in winter except for ales no lagers no draughts.

Maybe you only like drinking ales, but i think what most people do is brew lagers in winter and ales in spring and autumn.

Gmax, i have no problem at all with the australian sense of humour, it is your sense of humour i have a problem with.
I also have a major problem with people saying whatever they want and then typing a bunch of smiley faces or hehehehe's after it and thinking it is cool.

If you think it is cool... try it down the pub to someone's face sometime, i bet you only do it once.

... also when you have been an arse, sometimes it is better to just recognize the fact, perhaps even apoligize instead of just telling people to bugger off.

You do however have a good point, if this sort of shit continues on this forum then i most certainly will bugger off (perhaps no great loss), but if someone like Hrundi V Bakshi who continually makes great contributions to this site decides to bugger off, then we'll see how funny it is.

I think you are confused about what a draught beer is. Both ales and lagers can be draughts. Draught refers how the beer is dispensed. Draught beer be it ale or lager is dispensed from kegs. Caned draught beer means the beer is trying to taste the same out of a can as if it was served from a keg.

This leads to the question what are you brewing an ale or a lager?
As Hrundi V Bakshi asked what type of yeast does the Tooheys special draught kit come with? If it was ale yeast drew 18 - 22 deg if it was lager 12 - 15 deg.

The sure fire way to tell if it is brewing is to use your hydrometer and take readings 24 hours apart, if they are the same the brew is doing nothing if they change it is brewing.

shaun, yeah the draught is coming along nicely now, the brew blanket overnite, kept the temputure right and nice scum ring formed with now so many bubbles on top and it the airlock is coming along nicely now bubblyin every 10 mins,
Although i put in the original tooheys yeast packet, but after i pitched it , i looked at the date on the back, it was about 12 months old, but as i said its
working now thats all thats matter .

I don't know you, and i don't know why you would assume i thought i did.
And yes I do have an attitude problem when people say sexist and racist things in a public forum.
I also couldn't care less if you were drinking buddies with every woman in india, I still find your comments offensive.
Finally, as far as being red faced goes... it is too late, i am already ashamed to be australian when i see people talking about having women sent over from other countries to be their maid, pour beer, clean and cook for them.

It seems to me that this forum is a place where sneakily exchanging goods at supermarkets and then bragging about it is accepted behaviour, and sexist, racist jokes are also tolerated.
So i was obviously wrong and mistaken when i signed up to become a part of this community.
What has happened here in this thread was obviously a case of my misjudgement, I apologize for that and any other inconvience or offence i may have caused to the members of this forum and i will not post here again.

... and especially to gmax and tommo... sorry for having offended you both, i hope you enjoy the forum without me.

Well can of worms (guest in disguise), if you feel you need to leave the forum , then so be it, and if you think i'm anti social in not going to pubs well there is a couple words i could use but i won't, i don't like going to pubs, because of smoke and expensive beer, I like to sit home watch the footy with my own beer and go to my mates places watch the footy and have my own beer.

And for your information mate.
i'v been married to filipina women who did enjoy cooking and liked to bring me my ale, she never complained, pity she died , she was good women, so don't f........g tell me i'm racist.

Never use baker's yeast in your beers. We're making beer, not baking bread.

Get some yeast from the homebrew store and use that. Or, as you did, an old yeast you had from a previous beer.

And by the way, consider this topic now locked, as we don't seem to be having much luck being civil on this particular thread.
