G'day men,
I've made a few ales and now I want to have a go at doing a pilsner. I have a fermentation fridge and I'll be putting it into kegs. Does anybody have a recipe using saaz hops?
Thanks
Cadbury

That looks like a pretty good recipe to get you well into the ballpark. I have not brewed it though, but it is really all about the super clean ferment and a simple recipe. Use lots of yeast.

Just racked my latest AG pilsner on the weekend. Its now lagering.
Was a SMaSH recipe (single malt and single hop)
100% pils malt, 100% saaz hops. Dont have the numbers in front of me but from memory it was 40 IBU with 60, 15 and 0 min additions. WLP833 (german bock) yeast altho i have used wyeast 2000 (budvar) in the past.
I prefer mashing a bit lower than Warra, 63-64 is my preference.
I also did a protein rest at 52C and then did a decoction to raise the temp to 63 and another (thin) decoction to hit mash out at 78C but you could do a single infusion.

I just converted one of the recipes to a 60 L batch and it works out that I need 426 g of saaz hops all up. It sounds a lot. Would that be right?

Yeah, I get the following if I scale to 60L:
Amount Item Type % or IBU
14.38 kg Pilsner (2 Row) German (3.3 EBC) Grain 94.12 %
0.90 kg Cara-Pils/Dextrine (3.9 EBC) Grain 5.88 %
125.97 gm Saaz [3.50 %] (60 min) Hops 17.8 IBU
152.69 gm Saaz [3.50 %] (30 min) Hops 16.6 IBU
76.34 gm Saaz [3.50 %] (10 min) Hops 3.9 IBU
74.89 gm Saaz [3.50 %] (0 min) Hops -
I'd be buying a half kilo, or more if you plan on it being good.
You are obviously free to make it less hoppy or do like Warra and bitter with a high AA% variety, but in my opinion all that Saaz is not going to waste.

I'm now 30 minutes into the boil.
Ended up mashing at 64.5ºC, after considering DrSmurto's comments.
Only did a single infusion, with a mashout infusion.
Managed to extract 31.5 litres of wort from 5 kg of grain @ 1.044 SG.
Mashed and sparged with rainwater from my neighbour's tank. Added some small additions to the water, after fiddling with the water profile in BeerSmith.
