Is Aussie Cricket in trouble?

Post by grabman »

Well I sat up last night to watch the ODI against Bangladesh, like many others I expected an Aussie victory!

Didn't happen, neither did a 20/20 win over the old enemy nor a win over Somerset. Three games into the tour and no wins, not even a positive pervormance from our boys.

Is there a problem with our team? Are our frontline bowlers getting too old given that they are the wrong side of 30? Do we have anyone waiting to step up?

Or do we just expect too much from our cricket team? Are our days as number one coming to an end?

Any thoughts :!:

What's the problem?

Maybe they've been hanging out with Warwick Todd? Sounds like Symo might have been anyway.....

Last night's debacle was probably the wake-up call they needed.

(For those of you unaware, Australia was a walk-up start to win the match, but got beaten by Bangladesh, which is rated last in world cricket and until last night had won only nine games of one-day cricket in 109 attempts over the past nine years.)

Symonds was out pissing on until 4.30 on the morning of the game and turned up to play drunk. He obviously thought he could still play OK in that state.

If doing that, and being humiliated by Bangladesh doesn't give them a reality check, I don't think there's any hope.

And God help us in the Ashes.

Ah, it's all good. It was getting boring there for a while (ie the last ten years). Gotta give the Pom's some glimmer of hope. Makes the final victory that much sweeter.

That said, after watching tonight, it's definitely a different Engerland. They can even field. I don't think post match urine tests would be uncalled for. ;)

Oh ! ye of little faith , Gentlemen please.
T he Aussies will take out the Ashes, because deep down the Poms
fear very little on this planet , only " Australians & Canadians"
As a kid liveing in London during world war 2 , nobody worried about
the Germans , Japanese or Italians ect, but mention that the Aussies
or Canadians where in the local boozers drunk & looking for a fight.
and every bugger took shelter .
perhaps there is still a little fear that " these bastards may beat us".
Personally I dont care if I celebrate with Land of hope & glory,
or once a jolly swagman, may the best team win .

The pommy cricket supporters are amusing.
They win a session of cricket and it's like they've won the series. :D

I remember living over in Ireland in '97 when Australia lost the first test to England in that Ashes. Everytime I past a pom, he was showing me how to block the ball. "This is how you play ... mate!". All a good laugh.
Damn pity, I was back in Melbourne by the time we won the next test and the series 3-1. Would have loved to rub it in.

This made it's way to me via email a couple days ago:
All good fun!

Subject: One man's advice to the English cricket side.

I've been studying the Poms...and I think I can help them. If we can find a way to pass on the following hints, we may be able to conjure up a competitive 2nd Test.

A) The English should pick more South Africans. I think you'll find England actually came a distant third in the Lords Test, behind Australia and Pieterson.

B) Hoggard should do something with his hair, his teeth, and his bowling action. The first two won't help his cricket...but at least he may be able to get a nice desk job after his career is over in three weeks' time.

C) Vaughan should set a more realistic goal for the next Test...like trying to get through a complete over without looking astonished.

D) Gerraint Jones should do nothing different. He has already made the most of his limited talent...and what a great move to play for England...God knows he'd never get into the Zimbabwean side.

E) There has been suggestions that Ashely Giles should take up darts as a sport...personally I think this would be a mistake, as it's impossible to win a darts match by firing every dart three foot wide of the board.

F) Trescothick should wear regular books instead of the Nike Concretes he is obviously using...a little bit of footwork will enable him to knick one to slip a lot quicker and get Pieterson in a lot earlier.

G) Bell ... well, you can't help everybody.

H) Flintoff certainly looks to be the next Ian Botham... if only he could develop an outswinger, a forward defence and a personality.

It'd be a start.

This bloke must have some SERIOUS dirt on the Pom selectors to be in the side. I guess he can improve, but why start with someone of club (?) standard, surely there must be at least one wicketkeeper in England?

PS how are you enjoying it so far Munkey?

at the end of the day its the taking part that counts, and I'm just glad we have such a formidable side to compete against,

PS, if we do actually win i will be back to edit this post.
