maple pale ale

bottled this last tuesday. prob too late to ask opinions on the recipe but would be interested in predictions anyway!

maple syrup 500g
15 kg cascade hops @ 5 mins

OG 1048
FG 1014? (Gotta buy a decent hydrometer. the bilo special does not suffice)

Bit of an attempt at a Monteith's Smooth black style.
Coopers Stout can
1kg dark LM
150 choc grain
150 dark grain
15 g sticklebrac + 10g steep
1/2 hr steep for grain
1/2 hr simmer with DLM and 15g hop. Final simmer for 10 min with grain water, then added coopers can, turned off and cooled in the ...

came back from sydney on sat, am now ready to put down the brew tonight. poured one last sample of the water and it's not too bad. will start a thread re the maple pale ale recipe i plan to do.

will just go boiling water/napisan next time but.

500gm Dextrose, 250gm Light Dry Malt Extract, 250gm Maltodextrin
500gm Leatherwood Honey
12gm Goldings Hop steeped.
Yeast as supplied.
cracked one open just a moment ago, i reckon it compares with the JS porter. not a bad drop, ready to open another.

...mmmm....just poured a sample after its been in there 20 hrs and the water smells pretty strong.

think i will start again.

may have to take your advice, damn it. flying to sydney tmrw so can't do it until next w/end.

Yeah it's weird, I rinsed with cold water as it says on the bottle. It still smelt really strong. I put boiling water in it and that's when the smell filled the room, I guess the steam really got it up in the air? Decied after that to leave it a few days to air. It still has a faint-medium smell but ...
