Ladies and Gents,

I remember the Pale Ale before they re-named it 150 lashes, good marketing.

I have just finished serving the 15 kegs of black, bitter, draught, light beers and Sparkling Ale (thanks Doc for the light recipe) for another wedding and was thinking of trying to replicate JSPA using kit and kilo.....still don't have a big brew room like my old house so still no moves to grain....time is a killer too.

My mates love the JSPA when we go to the pub and I reckon I can go close.

I made a beer years ago which tasted like Passiona (Pasito), no kidding, and was thinking that given the only hop involved that day was Nelson Sauvin, I reckon the passionfruity flavour/aroma of JSPA could be replicated using this hop.

Your thoughts ladies and gents? and or recipes that have been attempted?

I don't get a lot of passionfruit from 150 lashes, but then I don't really enjoy it all that much these days, I find it a bit bland. A little like Little Creatures Bright Ale...just not enough hop for me. Actually it's interesting, I've noticed a lot of "try hard" pubs lately with JSPA and LCBA on tap together, must be some kind of tap contract deal for gateway beers...

Anyway, here's a recipe I've heard goes well for JSPA, it does have some Nelson late:

I also don't get 'Passiona' tones from 150 Lashes.

For what it's worth, I get 'Passiona' tones from the following:

5g each Citra, Mosaic, and Cluster @20 mins
5g Citra, 10g Mosaic @10 mins
5g Citra, 10g Mosaic @Flameout
15g Mosaic Dry Hop

That's with a tin of Canadian Blonde and 1.5 kg of Dried Wheat Malt Extract - (AKA Earle's Stone and Wood with a different Hop Regime).

Oliver not trawling other sites, just waaaay to busy with life in general plus once I moved house and lost my awesome brew room under the house, it killed my passion.

The 2nd wedding that I have just done rekindled my spirit, plus I have another mate who I am now teaching how to brew.

Plans are to hand to build a deck with a built in brew room which will result in experimentation and no doubt kilo's unless I run like gregb.

I still have most of the hops in the freezer for your recipes above, but I think I will have to get fresh ones.

I should clarify.....Pale Ale does not taste like Passiona....I just remember that it mentioned fruity on the label? I had a few that day, oh and just quietly there is 2011 Vintage on tap in Newcastle at the Clarendon.....

Very good memory Warra with my banking career!!

I have seen the LCPA recipe on other sites when I have Googled it after people at work start talking brew recipes.

I have jumped back on at work ....oops..... a few times at lunch and saw you still handing out great advice which is what it is all about.

Thanks for the welcome back gents. Hopefully I will be in SA next year as I am doing another wedding. My mate wants me to brew all the beer and he is going to drive it down. I might take holidays and do the road trip. I had better start on perfecting the CPA and CSA before August next year as no doubt South Australian's drink nothing but Coopers.

Hope the Doc has some nice ones on tap for me when I drop in to his place.
