Hi to All...

Would anybody out there have a reasonably close All Grain recipe for James Squire Amber Ale ?

Any help would be appreciated...

I have trawled the forums, but can really only find K&K / Partial brewing recipes.

Cheers,
Chris

I've brewed something along the lines of the JSAA, but I don't have my notes with me here.

From memory it was something along the lines of:

4.00 kg Pale
1.00 kg Munich
0.20 kg Crystal
0.10 kg Wheat
0.05 kg Black

Can't for the life of me remember what the hop schedule was but I know it included Willamette. Whatever you use as your hops, I'd say go to about 35 IBU's, or thereabouts.

I'm surprised to see the cane sugar in there, I would have just mashed a bit lower. From memory, my attempt was mashed at 64 or 65.

This tastes sensational going into secondary fermenter,
I reckon this will be awesome when cold with some carbonation...

Next time I might add another 5g Williamette hops near end of primary fermentation to get the aroma right up there.

sorry Doc, i still like drinking it cold, so no need for the 'lagerboy' comments :)
maybe one day i'll come around...

cheers,
Grog

I've got a stack of new Willa hops to use and by the sounds of it I'll try them out in this first to get some idea of the flavour and aroma.

Thanks guys

Only English yeasts I have are 1028 london and 1469. Haven't used a dry yeast in a year and a half and paying the $6 per batch isn't too attractive. :x

Dont waste the 1469, use the 1028.
Otherwise recipe looks good. Will try for Winter

This brew is quite nice, and its only been in the keg for 5 days, I did a bit of a force carbonation for a day, and its been sitting at 10psi now for 4 days.

I know it will be really tasty, and very smooth if allowed to naturally carbonate for a few weeks, but that aint happening !!!
I think this one will only get to age to probably 14 days if its lucky :)

I brewed another one of these Friday night, with exactly the same recipe, and will add 5 grams of Williamette into the secondary fermenter, as I think this first recipe could use a little bit more aroma, which would be a closer match to the original JSAA.

Will post here again after I try the second batch with the secondary aroma hops.

Cheers,
Grog

Sorry, meant to say that on the second batch, I left out the sugar (dextrose).

I'm not really worried about the body as I like it slightly heavier (like my real body :) ), and I cant see the point in raising the alcohol just to lighten the body. I aim to keep ABV as low as possible.
