Kilkenny or similar

Heyas
Just wondering if anyone has got any kit form recipes for Kilkenny or any similar brew. :)~
Was chasing about 2 or 3 so i can compare find the best one and even have a bit of a tamper with it.
Heard though that the real creamy feel to it though comes from the widget thing in the can though.

Any help will be appreciated. :)

Ok found 3 recipes if any1 is interested. Hope this helps :)

1) Muntons Yorkshire Bitter
1kg Light Malt
500g Maltodextrin
12g Fuggle hops (Infuse 15 mins)
Safale yeast
Fill fermenter to 18L.
and
2) Muntons Yorkshire Bitter
1.5kg Morgans Amber Malt,
1 Fuggles Hops Bag (Quick Boil),
Safale yeast.
Fill fermenter to 18L.
and
3) Muntons Yorkshire Bitter
Brewcraft #20 Malt Plus Booster
Finishing hops Fuggles pellets 5g
Finishing hops Goldings pellets 10g
Muntons Gold yeast
Final Volume 20l
OG 1048, FG 1012, Alc 5.5%
3/4 of usual bottling sugar.

Sorry, can't help with this one.

Tried a Kilkenny once on tap, and decided it's not my style of beer.
Too many others to brew instead!

I don't mind Kilkenny and have only ever had it on tap. Sorry I don't have any suggestions for your recipe but will be interested to see how this turns out.

I can't help too much on a kits & bits recipe, but I've learned in the past that an Irish Red depends a lot on the yeast. If you play with liquid yeasts and can get your hands on WY1084, then you're well on your way.

I can't honestly say I've tried to make a Kill Kenny but recipe no 3 looks the best. Munton's gold yeast has a pretty good reputation so I'd probably stick with that but make a starter if the sachet is less than 11g or you have any concerns about it's viability i.e storage conditions or age.

Not sure what the finishing hops are about. They aren't generally used in Irish ales and I don't think Kilkenny is any exception.

Your beer, your discretion of course.

Thanks for that guys will try track some liquid yeast down and will post some more recipes down if i find more.
Will post how it turns out when i get around to giving it a go as got to many more i want to try now :lol:

Ok found another and sounds the go :D

1 Can Morgans Royal Oak Amber Ale
1.5 Kg Amber Malt Extract
250g Dried Malt Additive
150g Soft Dark Brown Sugar
40g Goldings Hop Pellets
Kit Yeast

Bring 2L of water to the boil and add 1 cup of the malt and 15g of the hop pellets. Allow to simmer gently for about 20 mins. After 20 mins add the dried malt additive to a jug and use the hot hop liquid to dissolve it. Add this mixture to the fermenter along with the other ingredients except the remaining hops. Allow to ferment. After fermentation has ended rack to another fermenter and add the remaining hops. Allow to stand for a further 10 days. Bottle and allow to mature for at least 3 months or longer for a better result.

Approx. F.G. 1020 & 6% Alcohol

Recipe looks fine to me.

I'd save myself the trouble of racking to another fermenter, there really is no need. (Let's not start another racking v. no racking debate)
Just throw the balance of the hops into your primary fermenter, and bottle from there 10 days later as planned. The hops will sink to the bottom over that time, and you should have no trouble bottling.

I never rack, not even for lagers any more, and I have no trouble bottling.

I'm not sure why you need it to mature for 3 months. I'd sample it after 2 to 4 weeks, and see if you are happy with it at that stage.

Might use a Muntons Gold Yeast as well instead of the kit yeast :?:
Never done racking as only just started but dont have the time or space at the moment to it as got 3 fermenters brewing at the moment. :)
