G'day Lachy,
You could make a nice bitter or mild with that recipe if you drop the PoR and Cascade and use 20g Goldings for 20 mins and another 20g of Goldings at flameout...ferment with some S-04 or better still ESB or London Ale yeast.

Cheers,
TL

Now that's a thought... I remember contemplating doing a mild some time ago. I think Coopers does one in their range and if memory serves it was quite a tasty drop. I'm definitely getting into lower ABV brewing at the moment, so any and all midstrength recommendations and recipes are appreciated!

IMO the Coopers mild is a bad spokesbeer (I just made a word) for the style. I think they just got a pale ale and watered it down to the mild gravity.
I am interested in brewing a killer mild, the style makes sense, especially as the weather is getting a little cooler.

I have this (my first ever attempt) chilling for fining right now:

Or get generous with some fuggles and styrian goldings and get yourself something like Deuchars IPA. A hoppy english bitter.

On tap in my bar at present TL.... 8)

When mates come over i point them to the blackboard with the list of beers on tap which includes a name, a short description, ABV and IBU.

They tend to baulk at beers in the sub 4% abv category but cant get enough of either my Rogers or the deuchars IPA.

"its doesnt taste like a mid strength....."

Damn straight!

They are slowly realising that ABV isnt necessarily proportional to flavour.

Indeed...I find nowadays that I rarely make a beer with an OG above 1.050 unless I'm trying to keep to style.

Gone are the days when I just chucked in another kilo of sugar to get pissed quicker...
