Your Best OzTop/"Green" Cider/Whatever Recipe?

Postby Kevnlis » Thursday Sep 04, 2008 8:32 am

OK, I have finally broken the bank and spent the $25 for OzTops.

I have been avoiding this because I have yet to hear anything good about them! Anyone use them?

Also I will need some recipes for ciders etc. that can be drunk "green" in other words without some age but still taste decent. I had a go at a cider a while back and it took ages to taste good! There must be a way around this?

Thanks guys!

Kev

BTW: If you have a recipe my wife might like I would also be interested in that! ;)
Prost and happy brewing!

Check out the strongbow cider thread. Any preservative free AJ will work. Mates of mine have tried

apple and apricot
apple and blackcurrant

All good IMO (altho i prefer pure apple)

Did i send you some 4766? You could use that instead of the dry yeast.

Yeah, I did have some of the 4766 but had to leave it up in QLD (no real way to get it to VIC and keep it cold).

I have done pure apple juice with champers yeast but that took ages to lose its edge! Maybe a proper cider yeast is important here? I will see what I can dig up as far as dry yeast, or find a way to make a heap of small slants that I could keep in the fridge and pitch direct to the juice without nutrient or anything being needed.

Will have a look in the yeast bank tonight. I have a feeling i have 1 vial of the 4766 (and a nice yeast cake in YOUR 5L glass fermenter!)

Hahaha... thanks mate. I will have to organise a trip to Adelaide early next year. Maybe Jan or early Feb? I am sure they will love me carrying a 5L glass fermenter on the plane! ;)
