My little sister was given an adorable little 5litre oak barrel, fully functional for her 18th birthday and she desperately wants me to help her make something alcoholic in it! I was thinking maybe mead? I don't really know... any suggestions?
My mum also found a 10 litre ceramic jug with a tap at the bottom, any ideas what to do with that?

How about a raspberry cyser?

Made 1 a few years ago.

5L batch

4.8L of berri apple and pear juice
750g honey
600g raspberries.
Champers yeast

Can I just brew it in the barrel? stick an airlock in the lid? or will this cause too much sediment or something?
Will the barrel withstand the pressure if it's carbonated in there?

Cyser is similar to a mead so it can be aged, my batch is more than a year old now.

I would ferment it as normal and then once its clear and finished fermenting add it to the barrel.

Or you could take the easy route and buy 5L of port and put it in there...... thats what i have in my 5L barrel!

I am tempted! but she wants something special and home made, it's been forever since I made anything at all so this seemed like a fun project to get me back in to it. I think I'll go with the cyser! thanks!
