sorry yeast

Postby speedie » Monday Apr 25, 2011 4:37 pm

we put together two batchs of beer yesterday the brew day went well
this morning i retuned to do some of the unexiting duties of brewing
like scoring out all of my stainless vessels after leaving them to soak in a caustic solution overnight
the bummer part of this post is that the winsor ale batch was really fermenting but the 34/70 brew was at idle
the backround to this dilemma is i used some old yeast from a pro brewer mate but left it too long after recieveing it from him
so the executive vote was to rehydrate 250 grams of diamond lager yeast and repitch it this morning
i am sure that it will get away
but now have two lager strains in the brew
owell they should be happy @ 10 degress
will have to reserve some for future brewing
200 litres @ 1045 green bullet hopped
also ferment hopped
will post on results

How long are you talking? Could it be that some of the yeast was still living and the lack of activity is due to lag time?

What do you think of the green bullet as a dual purpose hop?

I don't recall Paul ever implying that he thought Green Bullet was a single use Hop, In fact he asked a direct question

Thanks Speedie, and Mick.

Actually the reason I asked was that I believed Green Bullet was infact the Steinlager hop and with Lager brewing season fast approaching was considering buying some.

Just wanted an opinion on it's characteristics is all. Judging by your reply
i think not it is a really good bitering and aroma hop
it seems to be a good one, so thankyou!

I hadn't heard of Diamond lager yeast before you mentioned it. Is that the same yeast as Steinlager use? I can feel a clone coming on :)~ :)~ :)~

the diamond yeast is from lalleman
it makes a dam fine brew and is temperature tolerant down to around 9 degress

not sure if it is still available

if you apply the correct hopping shedual you will get a good result for your lager
let us know how it turns
out

Thanks for the reply,

Any Idea what the hopping schedule should be?

I probably won't get this brew on for another month or so, but will let you know.
