You'll need to add the water first, don't put 80% alcohol through carbon. Filtered water, tank water \ rain water, spring water, distilled water take your pick. If you can get your alcohol up to 95% when it comes out of your still you'll end up with a better product.

Cheers,

You could dilute it back down to 40% and combine a few runs to fill your boiler and you'ld get a better product ( double distill after combining a few runs). OK, didn't know what type of still you had, your not going to get 95% with the little super reflux.

I distill into a Demijohn, then use a half-sized fermenter to water down my product (using a Britta inline tap filter and tap water), using the fermenter tap to pour into a test-tube for testing the alcohol percentage.

Once I am at my 40%, I then use the carbon filter to further purify my end-result before putting into a 25 litre fermenter for storage. I have used a standard 1/2 inch blocking grommet on the lid of my fermenter to seal it for storing my drinkable spriti prior to mix.
