Best Selection of Beers In Brisbane

Been to a good pub, or bad, lately? Found a bar with a great selection of beer? Looking for a new local or somewhere to visit on holidays?

Stone and wood is on at the platform and main bar.

Tap says Draught Ale but it tastes like a Wheat beer, cloudy and all. Not sure what is going on there, but it's a good wheat beer.

On another note I picked up a Rauchbeir from the bottlo which will be very interesting to try as I have never had this before.

Thought I would post an update on the beers on tap.

They have added Barons Honey Bock 7%. It's a pretty good drop and I don't like any of the other barons beer at all. Especially the way it is usually priced. The Honey Bock was very nice full bodies and a balanced honey flavour. Not too sweet aftertaste but honey up front, then bitterness.

Also the Stone and Wood has grown on me and now I don't mind it at all.

The also have Sunshine Coast Summer Ale, which is a very nice drop. Not too much hops, well balanced and I think It is a mid strength.

Still no sign of any MT beers though.

I try to make an outing to the Platform every fortnight or so, especially on tuesdays when they offer free samples. It's easy to find a good drop there and the staff seem pretty on the ball as far as knowledge regarding the beers.

I found that honey bock to be a little too sweet but that was only my initial impression and I haven't had a chance to sample another yet. The Stone and Wood is growing on me too, I initially wasn't a fan of that grassy taste but after a few it develops a bit of an appeal.

Then of course there are the old favourites that one can't go wrong with, JS GA, AA and Pilsner.

They have run out of the Honey Bock now. Replaced it with LC Rogers.

well I'll be damed.

Just visited platform.......an Australian craftbeer bar and what did they try and sell me....got a free sample of it but it was...

Pipsqueek Cider........it was OK for cider but it is not beer and in my opinion has no place on tap, taking up space and preventing them from having another beer on tap. It was a bit watery anyway.

I'll be in Brisbane in a few weeks. Is this super-bar at Grand Central Station still open for business? I'd like to take advantage of its wide range of great beers.

It is indeed. Not too hard to find, just don't confuse it with Fihelley's (the bar next door, also owned by GCH).

I tried the Barking Flamingo Raspberry Beer earlier this week, can't say I'm a fan. Even after a whole pot I couldn't really get into it.

I spoke to one of the guys behind the bar and not many people rate the Barking Flamingo, apparently it is OK out of the bottle but that didn't translate into the keg for some reason.

On another note regarding the GCH, there is also a bottle shop next to the Platform Bar and they tend to stock a lot of the 'rubber stamp approved' beers and such. So if you come across a beer you like in the PB chances are you can pick up a carton or 6er at Drinx. They also do online orders and home delivery.

For those in Brissie, if you're interested in the Malt Shovel Mad Brewers 10/20 Commemorative Ale then swing by the Platform Bar. It's not a cheap drop though, at $20 a tally. 8% and very malty, it's a sweet beer with a dominant caramel aroma. Despite the strength, it goes down a lot smoother than most beers of that strength and I'd definitely recommend trying it once, perhaps with a mate though to go halves in.

At $20 a tallie you must have more money then sense to drink this at the platform. Pick up a bottle for under half that at any half decent bottlo. Not my favourite beer by a long way, but nice to see Malt Shovel putting out a beer with real character.

I've yet to see it at any of my other bottle shops and I only paid $10 :p

In cases like that, I will justify paying a stupid amount once if I really want to try the beer. Now that I've done so I don't intend to buy it again.

Update of tap beers.

Now ON!!

Sunshine Coast Dunkel - Chocolate tasting beautiful wheat beer
Little Creature IPA - Not really an IPA in my opinion, heavily hopped pale ale really, but good drop

I had a chance to sample the new taps last night.

LC IPA - Gotta agree with WSC, nice beer but it tastes more like an over hopped LCPA than any sort of new beer, let alone an IPA.

Sunshine Coast Dunkel - My mate and I really enjoyed this beer, it's got a subtle banana flavour to it that makes it a little sweeter than expected but it comes together nicely. I'd definitely recommend this one.

I also tried this new lambic beer they got in called Peche Lambic. Very very sweet and you can definitely tell there's peaches in there. It's a nice drop but keenly lacking in any real hoppiness, to the point where it's almost just carbonated peach juice. Perhaps a beer the ladies would like.

The only think about the Dunkel that I could fault was it was a bit light in body for a dark beer. Which is probably in style for a wheat beer but not what I was expecting.

It is very nice don't get me wrong.

I'm not sure what they were thinking with the Stimulus IPA????
