I bought a cascade porter from south melbourne coles. Their full price is around $13

I thought that the Chocolate Mahogany Porter was supposed to be only available in HB shops... Part of the premium range that they keep for the HBSes.

What's a good Cascade one to try? I've only done Coopers ones but am tempted to try the Spicy Ghost 'cos the label looks nice....

Any recommendations on what to add to the kit? What yeast would be best with this one?

All the Cascade kits are part of the same range IIRC. I've seen them all in Coles. The Cooper's Premium & Brewmaster range, however, are only available from your LHBS.

Ah ok, I've just never seen the Choc Mahog in supermarkets, but I suspect this was a supply issue as they were also hard to get in most HBSes for a while.

Timmy: Choc Mahog is definitely the best. Try Wassa's Recipe. Here are my brewing notes.

Heh, well... from what I can remember:

1. tasted at about a week in the bottle. Bitter, thin, unremarkable.
2. tasted again after 5 weeks. Very tasty, nice balance, malt character quite pronounced, bitterness much reduced. In short, really good
3. my housemate discovered how good it was, and drank it all over about a two week period.

So, all in all, very successful. Highly recommended as an easy crowd-pleaser.

I made a very decent Pale Ale with a Cascade kit and a few additions.
