Hi all

I just tried a James Squire Hop Thief Ale and am wondering if anyone knows what hop they were using to get the 'passionfruit' into the aroma?

At a guess, New Zealand Hallertau can give a passionfruit-like aroma, but I can't pull up the NZ hops website to get any more specifics or varieties.

At a guess I'd be saying cascade hops for Citrus and Amerillo for Passion fruit flavours.

I'd say your on the money regarding the hops being from NZ.
I can say that it's not Amarillo.

Wasn't a bad beer, but I certainly couldn't taste any passionfruit...

I bought a six-pack and had one last night. It's one of the best beers I've ever had ... malty, hoppy, bitter and tasty. Fantastic stuff.

I bought one bottle and it was good, but I don't think I could drink six at once, too much flavour!

I bought a 6 pack and thought it was great. Unfortunately when I made it to the James Squire Brewhouse they were out of it. Bit of a shame.

Its Nelson Sauvin.

Apparently, its grown in, or next to, wine orchards. The grapes that have fallen to the ground over the years leach flavours into the soil. apparently.

I have in a fermenting pale ale now. smells great.

That's the 1st confident answer to that question that I've come across. Chuck seems to hold that secret close to his chest.

I had a couple at the JS Brewhouse in Russell Street this week when they gave a keg of it away. They've brewed better. I've brewed better (being thoroughly arrogant about the whole thing).

Your talking about 2 different beers. Last years batch featured a combination of NZ Hallertau & Nelson Sauvin & this years has Simcoe & Tomahawk (Columbus)
