Wow, a bit over the top but perhaps he was scared of the "where do you put you temperature sensor" flame wars that they have over at AHB. Problem solved - one in the fridge and one in the beer. Being accurately able to control the temp of your fermenting beer to 0.1degree is impressive.

I wonder how his beer tastes?

That's impressive. Way beyond what my simple TempMate does.

As soon as he started speaking in the video, I knew he was a Dutchman. Being a clogwog myself, and still speaking the language, I can pick a Dutch accent from miles away. The guy's an electrical/electronics engineering student in Eindhoven in The Netherlands. That's where the Phillips electrics/electronics empire is based. Maybe in time to come they'll employ him, and we might see them make a ready made version for us homebrewers?

I only picked this up as I'm a bit of a nerd myself (programmer), so this type of thing got me excited as it combines beer and computers, woot.

I don't think this would be too hard to build, and probably not too expensive either.

Well it's not like he knocks out 400L batches, or anything...

It's a great project for a projects sake, and very well done. But not much that my STC-1000 doesn't do, except that it has a greater degree of resolution and accuracy. I can't imagine that keeping the beer +/-0.5C is much better than +/-1C. Still, the code to predictively turn the fridge on/off was probably the hardest part of this project and deserves some kudos in itself!
